Re: 500.4 Titanium amp distorting in one channel

Thanks guys. Yes, I've been through the process of elimination and ruled out everything else. It is definitely the amp. I've also had the pots 'cleaned' and still the issue remains. I'll need to have it fixed here in Australia and wAs seeking pointers from others with experience to help any tech who...

500.4 Titanium amp distorting in one channel

Hi everyone. I have a Phoenix Gold 500.4 amp. One of the really nice Titanium coloured ones from a few years back. It's got a bit of a problem. One of the 4 channels goes quite and starts to pop and distort once the amp comes up to operating temp. If I bridge this channel with its sister channel, th...

Re: My 500.4 needs some help

Ok, the tech said that wet cleaning all the pots and switches was the first thing he did as he said they're a common issue on these amps.

The problem is still there.

Any other ideas?

Cheers everyone.

Re: Poll: Xenon x100.4 or the new ti 600.4

I'm still not convinced that Class D amps are as nice to listen to as a nice Class A/B.
I've not been tempted to change 'up' my original titanium 600.2 and 500.4 amps for this reason.

Re: My 500.4 needs some help

I wouldn't remove them from the board.
I've tried dry wiping all the switches for about a minute each to no avail.

Will try a wet clean as soon as I get the chance.

My 500.4 needs some help

Ok, I'll pull the back off the pots and give them a good clean out with some contact cleaner.
I heard somewhere, some time ago from someone that this might have been an issue with another Ti amp of the same vintage.
Will report back in a few days.

Cross fingers...

Re: My 500.4 needs some help

Yeah, shipping will be the killer there, especially as these amps can be purchased for about AU$450 or even less now locally.

My 500.4 needs some help

I'm hoping that what you say is true. The trouble is, the tech has made it clear that he's not keen on working on this amp (maybe he only wants easy work - I'm not sure) and I would rather have someone do the job that doesn't mind working on it. I would take it back to him but only if someone else h...

My 500.4 needs some help

Hi everyone. My 500.4 has an issue with one channel - front left. The issue exists in bridged and un-bridged modes. Outline; *When the amp is cold, it's fine. *After its warmed up though, the driver connected to this channel pops now and then (regardless of the volume). *It also sounds distorted now...

The trouble I have with some of those generalisations is that power requirments are going to be driven by a driver's efficiency, among other things, and NOT its power handling. In fact, when choosing amplifiers, I'd go so far as to say that the speaker's power handling is the last thing you should c...

ttocs, I don't need to tone down the tweeter as such as I have a fully active system that affords more than enough control over driver levels. The dots are placed in places where I want to the tweeter and mid reflection only to be attenuated at certain points on the screen. Call it selective reflect...

Stryker: I didn't have any black ones available at that time. Since then, felt has been used anyway.

ttocs: yes, velcro is the go - for now at least. I was after felt dots but this was wha was on the shelves at that stage.

Looks odd but works just as intended very well.

Haha, I ended up shaving off all the blood. Actually, I have a carpet dash mat in the same carpet. They're popular here in Oz because our summers are so stinking hot and they protect the dash and cut down on glare. I'm also thinking of carpeting my pillars as well. Seen it done before and I kinda li...

The next goodies to go into the car...hopefully before the event this weekend. My new pods. These may look pretty rough but they're good enough to cover now. Carpeting pods of this shape will be a challenge but it will cover the finish, hiding all the little flaws. Remember, these have been carved b...

I can answer the first one for you with a suggestion: run them full range - no high pass filtering, etc. This way, so long as you don't absolutely hammer them with bass with an eq that's set for big bass gain, you'll enjoy a very nice bottom end from them. You'll also notice that your mid-bass will ...

Oops, I really must be more careful with my knife...
Looks like I am good at whittling my leg too with a 40mm long slice to my thigh and a pair of jeans wrecked. Time for a blade change I think.

The pods are coming up really good but.

+1 to the JL but then I'm anal about the quality side of things. Sure, the two MTX's will go louder than one JL, but the JL will sound better.

If you must have two subs, go the single JL for now andadd a second when you can afford it.

1. One set of RCAs into front is fine. 2. Set to S2. 3. Yes. Bridge it. :) I ran a 500.4 like this for a while and loved it. Nice amp. The LPL is nice to have as well. Did this too but with a ZX450 into a Boston Pro front stage and paralleled Infinity subs (2 ohm load) and it worked very well. A mi...

I got my old pods working and sounding pretty good but I just felt that I could get the staging better yet. I gave some thought to what would give the best stage height and most solid imaging. In the end, I wanted something that would; 1. provide as high an incident/reflection point as possible 2. m...

Ok, moving to the boot/trunk again. The first pic is how the boot was when I last worked on it. The second is how it is going as it was changed to show off the amps better and allow them to remain cooler. Summer here regularly gets into the mid to late 30 degrees C so any help is welcome. A couple of days ago, I decided to find and treat a rattle that was coming from both of the subs. It sounded like an air leak (I was hoping this was what it was and not a cooked coil, or noisey motor that the standard Perfect subs suffered from at one stage) and sure enough, it was - PHEW! The stand...
