Nothing major- Replaced the power and speaker terminals if they had a hole all the way through (newer style is blocked off in the back to prevent debris from falling on PCB). Updated some component values in the power supply to prevent heat stress. Fans. Removed ground switch and hard wired to 'grou...

Some of it is solder flux which you can clean up with isopropyl alcohol and a brush. There is also a little bit of heat discoloration but not enough to really worry about IMO.

It still hums and I have discovered it is the middle toroid. When I push down on it the hum stops. Could this be caused by my shabby power supply sending "dirty" power into it? I think that is correct. The middle toroid is filtering out crud on the B+/B- input. If your amp seems to be wor...

Hi Chris- Sorry I was off for a week and just got back today. First, if the insulators have any thermal grease you might clean it all off or better yet install some new ones and don't put any thermal grease on them. If you are handy with a multimeter set it to ohms and with the amplifier power off, ...

Pull the cover off and inspect the circuit board for any debris that could short out the power supply. Those EQ's seem to be a magnet for loose strands of wire.

Rolandk- Do you use a new woofer everyday? And if so, do you give it a break-in period before testing? Yes, and not really, just a few minutes at a moderate level while getting the test set up. Oops! I mis-read your question. We use a new woofer at the beginning of the test and run it until it dies...

I know that some of the newer sports cars have a break-in milage period inwhich the computer wont allow the engine to produce it's peak HP until said milage is reached. In the motorcycle world there are two schools of thought in breaking in a new engine, baby it for certain period of time (like the...

Breaking in vs. not breaking in shouldn't really effect the power level capacity, so for this particular test it don't matter. In general though breaking in a speaker is a good idea.

PG speaker power ratings are derived from number crunching the specs and real world testing: put it in a box, pound the crap out of it for a full day at a certain level and if it lives, keep increasing the the level each day until it dies. This is what I do for a living    The...

Welcome to the phorum. Sounds like a fairly minor problem worth fixing. One thing you can do yourself is (with the power off) try turning all the pots and switches up and down several times.

There were original MS series amps (not 10th Anniversary) without the master/slave feature. I don't remember the exact time when the master/slave feature was dropped but I'll guess mid 90's. Plexi cover didn't come standard. Any V2 ZX series amp should either have 'V2' in the serial number or if it ...

~150mph on the track. Pretty much any speed over 100mph you have to stay tucked in regardless of body weight.

I was a tech in the Service Dept for almost 13 years, then moved over to Engineering Tech 2.5 years ago.
