Re: Isobaric sub boxes
Isobaric sub arrangements and many modern subs are suitable for very small enclosures. Thats their advantage over traditional subs. But this comes at the cost of efficiency and more weight. Best way to go is build as large an enclosure as you can fit, and then choose a suitable sub. The bigger the e...

Re: SD800.4 question
So how big is the sundown amp? Most of the voltage drop at high current draw happens between the alternator and amps. Some voltage drop happens inside the alternator and is compensated by a voltage regulator. This regulator in not infinitely fast and when current draw suddenly stops voltage peaks a ...

Re: I think I have a problem
It makes perfect sense and that's what I do. They're so easy to pull, there's no excuse. When I get my hands on an old PG amp I pull the caps and replace them when I get round to it. Most my amps sit on a shelf in my garage where I like to look at them over a glass of whiskey 8) My least favorite (t...

Also you really should try and find some M-series amps. I like them best of all PG amps.

MS/MPS user manuals
Does anybody know where to find a copy of original MS/MPS manuals? I have the ones downloaded from the phorum site, but they don't look like originals. They only have like 2 pages of original stuff and the rest is bits and pieces, specifications are edited etc. To compare, some of the M-series manua...
Re: MS vs MPS
Looking at the specs the MPS2240 seems to be the biggest cheater of PG amps. The MPS2500 is spec ed to do exactly same power as its high voltage brother MS2125 but at half the ohm loads. Where as MPS2240 is spec ed to do same power as MS275 but at one quarter the ohm loads. I would like to see these...

Yeah, the XS will make some more power, but the Sapphire just might be better SQ-wise. It is triple darlington unlike the XS, so if you are a PG nut...

Re: Here's how to mke PG amps sound better.
Without any experience in replacing op amps, a few comments come to mind. First of all, op-amps are not digital. They are analog devices packed into a small space. I am also under the impression op-amps limit sound quality somewhat. But the biggest limitation in sound quality are most recordings the...

Re: Phoenix Gold MPS-2500 Repair Help, Please
I'm not going to guess what's gone wrong with your amp, but I can give you some general knowledge about these amps. Hope this helps. Power supply fets ("57A transistors") don't blow without a reason. There has probably been a short circuit in the speaker wires or inside the amplifier. Coul...

Re: Opinions on older PG sub amp selection.
I would choose ZX500 to match the zx450. Soundwise all mentioned amps are the same. If you need even more power then an MS2250 is the winner.

Re: PG Subs - do they lean toward SQ or SPL?
You should try Audison subs if you want great SQ and good power handling. The AV12 sounds really really good in a 1cuft sealed enclosure and can take up to 1kW. I was immediately surprised how "right" this sub sounds and how forceful the sound is. I'm used to sealed subs sounding accurate ...

It would be great to hear about how PG amps came to be. Imagine someone going into his garage saying "I think I'll design an amp today" And then building the first MS amp. And what an amp!

Re: Help with box design.
Obviously you just make a box with four times the recommended volume. A box with four subs and four times the volume of a single box should be ported with four times port area. Port length will stay the same. You can use four of the recommended ports and put them in the same box, but that is a waste...

You can also use both terminals. Especially if you have a dual voice coil sub or two subs. Double the connections = half the resistance.

Re: What caps do i need
Since they're 2,5V caps there will need to be at least 6 caps in series to make 15V max. Make it 7 caps in series to be on the safe side. But to get back to the 4F capacitance you need 7 of these 7-cap daisychains in parallel. So it takes 49 caps to make one cap with 4F capacitance at 17,5V max. Now...

Re: Will an MS275 run 1 ohm bridged?
Personally I would not do it. The amp is stable at 2ohm bridged and the red/yellow switch can help if you have thermal problems. At 1ohm bridged you will just stress the amp and possibly ruin it. Even with the switch in the high current position the amp is not designed to work at 1ohm bridged. The M...

Nice, even the plexi looks good! Usually the corners are broken like on the one I scored for 100euro. I don't know what to make of this business about the need of a line driver. The manual states it needs one, Larry Frederic says u need one and zeropoint 0.5 swears by PLDs. But then again the gain r...

Just watched this great vid again and noticed all the power measurements were done at 1kHz.
So prolly this does about the same as an MS-2125 x2 after all..

Re: Phoenix Gold MS-2125 on the Amp Dyno!
I was comparing a single ZX600ti to a MS 2125 in my mind, my apologies. They both do rated at 4 ohm bridged 40Hz. At 1khz dynamic burst into 2 ohm bridged zxti almost doubles that, and so does MS-2125. But the zxti has a bit more headroom and this is no news. It just does what the ms series does, an...

Re: Phoenix Gold MS-2125 on the Amp Dyno!
I was kinda expecting more dynamic power at 2ohm after seeing the zx1200ti dyno video. Maybe thats just because a MS 2125 looks so much stouter and has more hardware in it like driver transistors and capacitance and a huge heat sink. But I guess that is just progress and the difference in power is i...
