Those drivers can play a lot cleaner then the stock speakers would, and in the locations they are at, facing the way they do they will also have a better soundstage/imaging. As long as everything is mounted nice and tight I am not sure how you can say that it wasn't an improvement but I understand that its not for everyone.
What would you have recommended he do?

Why?
Its realy necessary modify the oem aspect to have a good sound?
In case of this car yes. The car is from 1997 and nobody cared about staging when developing the sound system for it. It just had to be enough to listen to FM radio and the news. When i bought it only a single speaker was working. All the others where shot.

This car only with a speaker on the door at the original site would have better soundstage than as is.
It´s amazing how much u know about my car, but here´s a picture with a little description. I´m not the biggest guy but seems like i´m bigger than the average portugese fella.
there are a lot of cars competing now with pillar mounted tweets and door mounted woofers. its all about where the tweeters are aimed, off-axis responces and how its all tuned but it can be done, and has been done.

Due to rain all easter weekend long i focused on indoor activities for my install. I completly finished the first of three MS2250 Nickels that goes into the car and rebuilt and painted the distros so i have enough to power all the equipment. Forgot to take pics of the distros tough.

I blasted the housings and repainted them with graphit paint. Once that dried up i applied diamond effect paint. That kind of paint has some sort of flakes in it. Then a layer of clearcoat and they were done.
During the last weekend some work has been done on my car. The enclosure for the cyclones is done only missing the carpet
and all the signal processors are hidden in the left side compartment of the trunk. The right side will house everything regarding the power supply.
