*** UPDATE 2013 ***
As of August 2013, I sold off my horrible Alpine PDX amps, my much-missed RSDc sub and my Alpine Head CDA-9887 Head Unit. The RSD comp set was pretty much toast, so those had a burial.
My new setup consists of a JL 1200/1v3 1200 watt amp, a JL 300/4v3 300 watt amp, 2 JL 12W6v3 12" Subs in a sealed custom enclosure, Image Dynamics Chameleon component set being run active, and a Pioneer AVH-8500BHS.
My main goal was to get a double DIN head unit and expand my Media Playback options, as I'm going on an extended road trip in November. I wanted to be able to have CD playback for FLAC/CD Audio, but also be able to throw an iPod Classic in the center console to make those 800 mile stretches more enjoyable.
The 12W6v3 Subs are seeing 1.0 cu ft net each, which is the recommendation. I have to say, I was never a huge JL advocate in the past, but after taking a chance on them, I'm glad I did. I think for what these subs are, they are way overpriced, but I had a little extra money saved aside, so that wasn't too much of a worry.
The ID Chameleon component set was a huge jump up for me, and I couldn't be happier with their reproduction and performance. Going to this new setup, the only thing I'm really missing is the 9-Band Parametric EQ on my Alpine Unit, but this Pioneer does a pretty decent job with its Graphic EQ. It's got about two too many gimmicky BASSBOOSST and Loudness functions for my liking, but in its price range, nothing else came close in terms of overall look, functions, and versatility.
In a nutshell, this new system kind of made me fall in love with my car again, which led to some exterior upgrades. Mainly getting a new set of wheels and replacing the much-damaged front bumper cover. The Scion has 87k miles, and I'm hoping to get another 87k before it's put out to pasture.

Re: 2007 Scion Tc Install (Install Gutted, New Stuff For 201
From what I understand about the Fi subs, running them at half rated power is okay, but getting them close to rated power really wakes them up. I'm looking at trading my four Ti2 10's for four Fi Q or SSD 10's. The hold up is I'm trying to figure out if the Q's will fit in my box or not.
Being loud without good sound quality is pointless, but having good sound quality without being loud is also pointless.
Re: 2007 Scion Tc Install (Install Gutted, New Stuff For 201
It's funny you mentioned that, as I actually ordered another FiQ a couple weeks ago (High QTS with a Carbon Fiber Cap), and am going to drop it in the same enclosure that's pictured earlier in this thread. Kind of a road trip sub if you will.
I think with 1200 watts, it should sound a bit more defined. The previous Q I had was impressive, but 500 watts from a Tantrum 500.2 bridged was admittedly not much power. My setup has also changed a bit, as I was running an 80Hz/12db slope on the sub amp, and now am running a 63Hz/24db slope which has vastly improved the overall sound in my particular car, which is basically one big open area.

Re: 2007 Scion Tc Install (Install Gutted, New Stuff For 201
So, in the process of gutting the rear of my Scion to install some new BC racing coilovers this weekend, I saw the funniest thing...
Back in 2009 or so, I bought a TON of eDead from Elemental Designs, using it mostly for the floorboards. I used RAAMat for the front doors and the quarter panels on either side of the back seat. The trunk area and trunk panels were liberally slapped down with eDead. Well, I get the rear trim out this evening, and low and behold, ALL the eDead had fallen off from the rear sections of the quarter panels and was just sitting in piles...hahaa. I knew the stuff wasn't the greatest back then, but damn...No vertical holding strength whatsoever apparently.
I guess I shouldn't have been such a cheap bastard back then and used RAAMat all the way around. Needless to say, I just finished ripping out the eDead, and have another box of RAAMat on the way. I'm only going to use about 1/3 of the box, so I'll probably be putting up the remainder here for sale if anyone out there is interested in it. Sucks that a new box of that stuff is about $140 shipped.

I have seen more then a few failures and one that leaves no residue is not that bad. Seen tar-based cheap crap out in phoenix that would melt and run down and stick to anything.

Re: 2007 Scion Tc Install (Install Gutted, New Stuff For 201
Decided to have a vented enclosure made for a couple of RSDC 10's. Went with the SQ recs listed in the manual. .90 cu ft gross per sub seems so small! I hope it ends up sounding alright...

That's definitely reassuring.

Re: 2007 Scion Tc Install (Install Gutted, New Stuff For 201
I got the RSDC 10" subs dropped in today, and just got back from driving around for awhile, testing them out. All I have to say is, holy SHIT. Those 10s are getting .82 cu ft net each and the port is tuned to 35Hz. I still can't get over how accurate and deep they sound. They've only got 1 hour of playing time on them at this point, so they still need to loosen up a bit. I threw a good combination of sources at them, and nothing sounded bloated, boomy, or sloppy. I was very skeptical going in to this project, as the RSDC is the only sub I've ever seen with such a small cu ft spec for SQ. .81. Whaaaaaa?! But it's right on the nose.
For my bass-heavy hip-hop/rap source, I chose Run The Jewels self-titled album from 2013. There are quite a few nutso songs on there that provide a good bass workout. This being my first ported enclosure in about 15 years, I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, the shit-eating grin on my face pretty much tells the story. I had to keep reaching up and closing the sunroof shade in my Scion. The last time I was able to shake it loose was when I had 2 sealed RSDC12 subs sealed and was really pushing everything.
Next, for kick drum accuracy, I chose some Megadeth and Pantera. I wanted to see if these things would get all flabby during some of the double-kick sections on Cowboys From Hell. No flab. No overhang. At all. It was basically the tight and punchy response of a 10", but with extra authority. Megadeth also sounded great. Countdown To Extinction was kicking me in the chest, while sounding very balanced and true to the source. It should also be noted that even though I was getting thumped quite well, I could still easily define all instruments up front, and the bass guitar sections managed to still sound incredibly musical. The Fi Q is no match at all, and I'm glad it's out of my car.
All listening was done with ZERO bass boost from the JL Audio 1200/1v3, and the Parametric EQ levels were FLAT on the head unit. If anything, the output was just a little too loud for me, so I'm going to drop the gain tomorrow and do another test run. All in all, I'm really, really glad I took the gamble on porting these little suckers. I was starting to really lose interest in my setup due to the Fi Q sub I've been running for awhile. I just have to remind myself not to be a total stupid son-of-a-bitch and sell these RSDCS like I did my last ones. Once again, the RSDCS impressed me, and made me realize they truly are one of the best subs I've had the pleasure of listening to.

I still can't get over how killer they sound. Another new step for me was having the enclosure built out of birch. Basically, was able to get rid of the Fi Q in its sealed MDF enclosure, go with the two RSDCs in a ported birch enclosure, and shed 12 lbs in the process. Total win-win over here. When I get everything buttoned up, I'll post up some video links.

After posting the pics above, I ended up placing the enclosure about 2" closer to the hatch to give the amps some more breathing room. Added benefit is the subs sound even louder than before. Loving this setup.

I'm quickly realizing that using an iPhone to capture the essence of a stereo system is pointless. It just sounds like distorted farts. I think the next logical step will be to try and get this thing metered.

its not the iphone so much as any phone. I can't tell you how often a customer would call and say his sub sounds bad listen, and before we could tell him not too you could tell the phone was 6" from the woofer. "See what I mean?!"
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.
Re: 2007 Scion Tc Install (Install Gutted, New Stuff For 201
After a few weeks in the car, I finally got around to fine tuning these subs. Going back and forth between the crossover points of 63Hz vs. 80Hz was driving me a little crazy. I was completely surprised that they sounded really good at 80Hz, but I ultimately went with 63Hz at 24db. These subs sound so stupidly good, that the main deciding factor was, "That bass guitar is just a little bit too far back..." Switched to 63Hz, and kapow! Nice juicy front stage with a surprising blend. And as far as being able to straight up pound? I can tell this is being achieved by the fact people aren't pulling up next to me at stop lights.
