Old School PG Amps Install - Finally Done!!!

Post by mndevil »

Here goes:
I've been planning this install for almost a year, collecting the amps from Netherlands, USA and Canada. Changed all the rail caps and all the burr brown of the amps. I am running 3 way active for this install
Head Unit: Pioneer ODR RS-D7RII
Processor: Pioneer ODR RS-P70x (All Caps ugraded to BlackGate)
Tweeter: Focal Be
Mid High: FLUX RC Series 3"
Mid Low : Focal 165 KBE 6"
Subwoffer: Phoenix Gold Elite 12d4 1pc
Amps: 2 MPS2500 for Tweeter and Mid High; 2 MS2125 for Mid Low and Sub
Speaker Cables : Van Den Hul CS122 for Tweet & Mid High, Magnum Hybrid for Mid Low & Sub
Power Cables: SHOK Industries 0 AWG & 4 AWG
Install Acc: SHOK Industries and Stinger

Cables and Install Acc are mixed since it is so hard to find same brand power cable and accessories here in Indonesia

Here are some pics of the install, Amps will be installed with custom PG plexi showing all the guts

I help people I Europe get parts and pieces shipped to them when they need it. If you find something in the US you want that can't get shipped there let me know and I will ship it. Sometimes it takes a while for me to do it because I am disabled and can't get out as much as I would like but it will get out.

I dig the install but why the heck are u mixing a Focal Beryllium setup with Flux 3" drivers? If money isn´t an issue you better get the matching BE drivers.

@ttocs, thanks for the offer, really appreciate it, will surely contact you if i need something from US

@joerg, well, i did a test run before deciding on the flux, apparently the focal be mid is not really my liking, the vocal is too wild and the sound of the music instruments is not so natural, i even change the RCA to Van Den Hul MC gold and Cardas Golden Reference, still didn't help, i use babyface MTV unplugged for my test CD BTW. I even tried the focal be mid low using ms2125, and it got no power. Sold the mid high and the mid low, replaced it with focal kbe and flux RC series
Well, money is not an issue actually. The mid high for Focal be here in Indonesia only cost USD 250 brand new a pair and the Flux Reference series is USD 1000.

Wanna ask you guys. Anybody tried the Elite 12d4 with sealed box? Mine is 1.5cbf, it's loud but not hard hitting. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Mine are in 1cu. And hit very hard.
But I'm using an elite.1. And have a pair of elite 12d4 at 1 ohm. So not quite the same setup.

stick a brick or two inside of it and see if it helps being in a smaller box. If it does then get some 2 x 4s and add some bracing inside the box to take up the extra, and make it a little more sturdy.

That's a great install. Sorry to hear about the recent misfortune.

That is a lot of nice gear you have. It should amazing when finished.
One thing i noticed was you have changed the rail caps in all amps but one? Also some of the internal wiring is different colors. Some people might not notice but it stands out to me.
Great job man.

@LL, i believe you are referring to the blue rail caps in the lower left amp? I changed that also, fortunately, i could find the blue color caps. Yup, changed all the internal wiring for MPS2500 to Van den Hul, kept the original wiring for the MS2125s

Here is the finished pics.

Unfortunately, my MPS2500 for Mid High had distortion and had to replace it using MPS2240 temporarily while the MPS2500 is in service.

Returned the broken Pioneer processor and changed it to Pioneer RS-P99 and man, that proc is absolutely beautiful, calm, precise in tonal layering. The SHARK DSP really works its magic.

Also changed the box to 0.8 cbf, sound excellent compared to 1.5cbf.

Sorry to say this, but this PG install really kills my other install using Mosconi proc, Mosconi A Class install
