New garage audio install

Post by knightrider358 »

Hey guys,

I didnt know where exactly to put this but it involves car audio too so i fig id post the whole job im doing here.

I have a 2.5 car detached garage. I bought this house in jan of this year. Well thw hkuse was built in 1928. Its roughly 3k sqft, 4 levels, basement, 2 living floors and a full walk around attic.

Welk the house was redone last year including electrical but the garage was not. It still had tube n knob ran to it and thru out. One of my biggest goals was to get it updated and upgraded.

I wanted at least 100amp service to it with at least 6 circuits thruout. One dedicated for a high amp dc converter. Hehehe hence the car audik side why this is in this thread. I want a car audio setuo installed in the garage for lisgening purposes since i am out there a lot and i wanted to have a test bench.

Anyways heres what i aqujred yesterday. So ill be installing all of this, this weekend. Ill keepbthis thread updated as i move forward with the job.

Btw the wire i have is #2, w 4 independant runs. This allows me to have a 220v service out there too if i need too. So stoked about this.

Sorry guys, ive been swamped with work and at home w things going on. I did get the electrical done but it took 2 weekends to run the service and another to fully do the garage.

So heres what she looks like coming out of my houses service panel.

Image

I fully ran 1.25" schd 80 pvc conduit from the house all the way into the garage.

Heres the service going into the garage from where it was all buried.

Image

Then i got a little 125amp service panel for up to 8 circuits. This is plenty for the garage.

Image

So i have 5 circuits now. 1 for lights. 1 for 3 outlets on one half of the garage. 1 for the other half. Then 2 independent 20amp outlets. One is for heavy amp power tools and my compressor ans the other is for my garage stereo setup. I havent gotten a big dc converter yet. All circuits were ran with 12-2 wire.

So heres what 2/3 of garage looks like. The other 1/3 is where i park a car to work on behind me u dont see in the pic.

Image

Its not the best setup but its my first garage and suites my needs.

Hope yall like it!

So a cost analysis of the job.....

#2 100 wire $60 (got it from a guy at work who didnt use)
100amp breaker for house $40
8 sticks and 6 90 bends of pvc $60
125amp panel $40
200ft of 12-2 $100
Box of 20amp outlets $30
6 4ft light fixtures $90

Labor blood, sweat, and one arch flash (dont ask) = shit my pants.

Total $420

Value.....PRICELESS!!!!

Give it a few months and you'll have that garage cluttered. Looks good, no electrical shocks?

I had to run a 220v line to the garage last year when I installed the compressor. It didn't take long in the crawl space to remind me why I did not want to become an electrician long ago. I am all for music in the garage but I can't say I get the idea of wasting all the power of going through a ac-dc power supply myself. I installed some 900mgz cordless speakers and drive them with an old laptop so I can stream music.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.
