Well I've missed all the shows so far this summer. So today in a few hrs I'll be making the 3hr drive to Edmonton to make the last comp. After a few setbacks I'll finally be able to get a proper measurement today. Fingers crossed I will get to my goal today.

Last year my best was 147.7.

My goal for this year is 150.

My new setup I added two more subs.
Did a bit more tuning. Beefed up my electrical a tad.

One thing that worries me is due to unforeseen circumstances I am down a sub. And the replacement won't arrive till next week. So reluctantly I added a spare dd3512 sub to fill the hole. I can't notice a difference so I'm hoping it's not affecting the other subs at all.

Wow. Noticed dual alternator. Do any of the guys that compete use the giant alts.they use on buses? I figure you could get them used from truck salvage yards and save buying custom alternators. Just pulled one off a motor that my buddy bought to replace the one he blew up in his truck and it was huge, looks like you could use it to run about anything.

Both my Alts where made for ambulances. 250 amps ea.

Well I got second place. So pretty happy. But I was pretty disappointed I was not able to hit my goal of 150. My best was 147.4. Pretty much the same as last year.

Without a doubt I'm much louder that last year. It actually gets a little hard to breath and the dash goes all out flexing. Night and day difference from before. But the numbers say it's the same. So I'm stumped what to do now. Not sure if it's my setup or just the way the truck sounds. Tomorrow is a 3x event. I got a couple good tracks from another competitor that will hopefully help out tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that the gain isn't measured. Maybe you need to solidify the truck more. I know that energy is lost when body panels and windows are flexing. 147.4 is nothing to sneeze at, that's really loud.

On a side note, how did you change the background on your head unit? We have the same one and I'd love to change mine.

Vwdude, put your image onto an sd or usb card and the go to you display settings in the menu. Was pretty easy.

Wow, you almost got your 150dB, congrats. Now it's time to tear it down and rebuild in search of more. Lol

Drock is that a sealed box or ported? Also how much power are you pushing to all 8 subs?

I had (4) of the original Ti12dElite Subs running off of 6kW in a cargo area of a 2002 GMC envoy. Box was around 11cuft tuned at 27Hz and I was able to get 150.4db in passenger side kickpanel.


With you having (8) 12 inch subs at the B Pillar in a truck you should be seeing 150db or more as long as your properly powered.

The best song I found when I did competitions was Young Jeezy - Thug Motivation 101. It has long continuous bass notes.

Another good one was Young Jeezy - Soul Survivor but the bass notes didn't last as long but sounded awesome.

One more song was Gorilla Zoe - Juice Box

My system is pretty loud. But not where I think it should be.

I was definitely lacking power. I did not measure amp output this time. So I'm not sure what I was at. But my voltage was resting at 13.9-14v and would drop to 10.8. So my fear of hurting the amp prevailed and I didn't push it to much. I managed a 149.7. I was so close. Yet so far.

I think I might have a bad cell in one battery.

Time to tear out and start over for next year. This year there was a pretty good turn out. Quite a few people with over 150's and two or three doing 159's.

Watching top dog is super fun.
I need to learn how to do this. It seems like the music tracks played make all the difference.

Oh, and yes the enclosure is ported on top, so it's hard to see. There is about 6" of clearance to the roof. So it actually works well.

I just noticed that as well..
Down here (in Australia), to get serious numbers, competitors are sealing off the front baffle to the pillars and making sure no sound waves can "escape" and hide around the sides of the box..
Maybe you need to try this and seal off the sides to the pillars?

Is the box ported at the top, and vents into that space above the box? If yes, I'd look at making up a "waveguide" as such to "direct" the port air to the front baffle as it could just be venting to that space and going everywhere..

Thanks, I have a wall in the design stage. So that is my plan over the winter. I'm looking for better batteries and bigger alt right now.

I had three xs power d3100 batteries and a yellow top under the hood with a single 300 amp alt. as long as the batteries were charged it would stay in the upper 10v low 11v range at full tilt.

When competing at SPL soundoffs in the late 90's , we took a sine wave generator and hooked it up to the preamp. Next we took a rta analyzer set at SPL, started the generator around 30Hz with gain set at reasonable volume and swept slowly up.

This way you will find the resonance frequency of your system.
We used this method succesfully and won about every SPL-soundoff there was.

Chances are you will find a higher frequency than you ever thought to be the loudest, making it possible to put more power into the system without overloading the speakers. [ and winning more soundoffs]

I've had a lot going on the last few months. So I haven't been checking the Phorum at all.

But good news is I finally got my garage cleared out enough to fit my truck in. So I can get an early start on my build for this coming up season.

I have some big electrical upgrades to do.

And hopefully yet another enclosure design will prove to perform better.

I had to remove my highs amps a while ago and realized the pressure from the subs had pushed out the flappy cover things on both sides of the back wall that make it so when the doors close the air pressure has somewhere to get out. So basically I now have two big holes.
