Peerless XXLS 830843 Dual 10" Subwoofer Enclosure

Post by ShockTherapy »

Hi everyone! I just wanted to get some opinions on a project I'm working on. I bought 2 Peerless XXLS 10" subs for my autosound application... Although they sounded great I ended up going with 2 IDQ subs. I wanted to use these fantastic subs in some way so I decided to have a kickass sub for my home theater. Here are some pics. We used (2) 5/8" and (1) 1/2" piece of MDF for the front baffle... this makes it 1.75" thick to reduce any vibrations. bracing was added to the corners as you can see in the picture below. I wanted a single terminal on the back so we ran the wire through the seperator piece in the middle. this was of course caulked to ensure an airtight seal. The enclosure will be wrapped in glossy black laminate which will match my NHT speakers perfectly.

THE ENCLOSURE STILL NEEDS TO BE SANDED AND SOME SCREWS ADDED TO BRACING, ETC,... I WILL POST AN UPDATED PICTURE TOMORROW OF THE FINISHED PROJECT. GIVE ME SOME OPINIONS... I'M A NEWBIE TO THIS.

Some newbie you are! That box looks excellent!

If you find your low end lacking, consider building another box for them with the matching passive radiators. I run a single XLS 12 with the XLS passive radiator and absolutely love the combination. It gets stinkin' lowww for a home sub.

Thank you very much! Each enclosure is 1.3 cubes which I feel was a nice volume to get what I need from these subs. I will be running this setup with a Dayton HPSA-1000R subwoofer amplifier. The subs will be getting 1000x1 at 4ohm mono. This setup should absolutely rock for music and home theater. I should have it up and running within a week and I will make sure to take pictures... maybe even a video! Thanks again for the encouragement and your honest opinion. Here is a link to the amplifier...

With 500w on my single 12 I greatly overpower my front stage, so I have to keep it turned waaay down. I think you will be very happy :D

I THINK YOU ARE GOING TO NEED EARPLUGS.
And I like your setup better than Tom's because one xx[xxxx]l12 with a passive radiator is only for people who can't afford two 10 inch xxxl's.
Your sub is going to sound MUCH tighter.
I spend hours listening to Tom's sub, so I should know.
Good luck with the project, and next time when cutting the baffle; try a fraising machine, that way the hole will be perfectly round, OR mount your jig-saw on a piece of wood that is nailed to the center of where the hole is supposed to come, so you can make a nice round hole.

Here's a few more pics after laminating it. The subs should recess nicely into the front baffle. Can't wait to hear it.
