Wanted High end home amp

Since I dont know jack about home amps I am in need of some help. Between listening to my home set up on audiosource amp two, seven t, and ms2250 I am fully convinced the audiosource amps do not cut it for me. The ms2250 is just richer in sound to me. So I am looking for a new home amp, a high end one. I would prefer used so I dont have to break the bank....any help would be great guys.

Whats your budget? How much power do you need? How sensitive are your speakers?

not sure what the sensetivity is....but they are scan speak 6600 and scan speak 18w rev.

IMO MORE HEADROOM THE MERRIE

Budget hmmm 500ish but Ill go up for something special.

check out emotiva. Heard one last week with the matching preamp and man, it was nice. Good price point as well.

Those are perfect....just talked to their rep and they seem to be gems. Overbuilt monsters.

I think Im going to pick up the RSP-1 and RPA-1

i will promise you, you will be happy. they are great looking in person too. And even though you probably spent more than you originally wanted, the resale is very high on them.

I find it a bit ironic that you're considering selling your MS amps to pick up some Emotiva equipment bdubs. Not for any reason you'd think though. I happen to know that Larry Frederick helped Emotiva with the industrial design of the DMC-1 and the MPS-1 and runs them in his personal setup! What a coincidence.

Seems to be some quality equipment!

to be honest though the guts kind of scare me....

2 output devices for s supposed 300 watts at 8 ohms kind of seems weak to me...

300 watts per on 2 pairs ??? sounds like very little headroom in this amp. Can you find out the output part numbers for me I can do a more in depth set of math numbers.

Oh also what are the big black caps rated at voltage wise in volts DC. With output devices and rail voltages a lot of numbers can be checked...LMK C

Most equipment manufacturers run a 15% margin on the max rail supply as opposed to the Voltage rating of the caps so my basic finger calculator says about + &- 53 to 55 volts DC for the rails.
Hummm a original PG MS-2250 has higher rails that that.

See if you can get me a output transistor part number if possible Please.

The Toshiba outputs used in all the older MS amps were rated at about 110 to 125 watts a pair when used in home audio equipment, so 2 pair on paper meant you could get 220 to 250 watts for two sets of outputs.
Some of the newer outputs put those to shame nowadays.

The rail caps are nicely sized. I have seen larger but mainly on DIY amps that were custom built by DIYers. At 18,000 ufd I would say they are adequate for most home use, and larger than many other brands out there as the AC line has less supply demand issues as opposed to a car amp on a 12 volt battery.

Wait a few months and you will have an affordable, with lots of headroom, AudioSource amp, with, here's the kicker: dual differential input and triple darlington output. Yup, just like your favorite PG amps up to and including RSd.

Dammit, and I already have an AmpOne, AmpTwo, and AmpSeven T.... now I gotta swap them all

Does it have the cheap plastic finish that the Amp 100 does, or would it match my old Preamp Two and EQ8?

http://www.asraudio.de/ - a buddy of mine had one of these badboys (the Emitter II) before he switched to Tact audio (i think it's lyngdorf audio now) - but the Schäfer has a s**tload of headroom - i still think it's the best normal amp i've heard incl Krell and Mark Levinson - dont know if you can get it in the US ?

first off, amp100 is all metal. It is, however, flimsy.

These new amps: the center panel is solid aluminum, brushed and anodized. The main front panel is aluminum. The cases for these are heavy duty, pro-amp style, rack mountable (with ZERO flex). Beefy, beefy construction.

New line consists of: AMP102 (stereo 75W @4ohms), AMP110 (110W), AMP210(125W), AMP310 and our newest: AMPSUB210 delivering 300 watts into 4 ohms, with fully configurable crossover on front panel.

holy expensive for audisource but they seem to be like PG car amps now, well worth it then...

What I meant was finish of the front cover...

I initially bought an EQ100, but was dismayed that it had a much cheaper looking finish on it than the rest of my gear. I had to pick up an older EQ8 in order to match it. Unfortunately that EQ8 has a very faint buzzing, so I end up leaving it disabled most of the time.

Well obviously the finish on all the new ones will match. The older stuff was developed at different times, with different factories involved. Consistency is now greatly improved.

I think the new look will fit in with all the older gear as well. Don't re-invent the wheel while in motion. (corny but applies here) Yes this one was a fun project.
