Bye bye HD DVD??
Bye bye HD DVD??
A friend sent this to me today. I found it interesting as my PS3 doubles as a Blu-ray player.

shit man....my aunt wanted a HD player and i had bluray in mind till we walked into one of aussie biggest hi-fi chain JB Hi-Fi.
The sales guy recommended HD DVD sayin its winning the war with more than half of the big studios supporting it and increasing sales ....
i thought he had a point and we ordered the Toshiba's flagship model ...caused my aunt AUD1200! comes with HDMI 1.3, 1080p upscaling for DVD and a high-tech DAC for Video processing.

not faulting the salesperson, just bad timing for us.

Warner Bros. exclusivity was the biggest advancement so far for blu-ray in the HD format war and Paramount following suit is definitely another major blow, but I don't know that I'd consider the outcome of this war as definitive yet. Hell, I'd love that to be the case as Blu-ray definitely has more potential, but the superior format has fallen before in other format wars.

Very much so. BR is going to remain wether HD wins or not. ALL PS3 games are coded in BR format.VW337 wrote:

Superior yea. My main reason was on this alone.stipud wrote:What's funny is that HD-DVD is a much cheaper technology as well. Blu-ray is superior, but costs a hell of a lot more to produce. Seems like consumers are used to spending $1000 just to watch videos these days, what with RCAs costing $150 apiece.

That 10GB difference is going to look mighty puny compared to holographic media that will start becoming more commonplace by the time there's a clear winner in this next-gen optical media format war.smgreen20 wrote:Superior yea. I haven't been there myself, but my uncle was telling me about my cousins house. He has a $41,000 audio/video system. Said it was 3-D like. Not sure if that's what you're refrencing.
Here's the outside of the house. Wish I had some pics of the home theater room.

Smgreen, I'm pretty sure Fuzzy wasn't referring to a type of holographic display technology but some sort of new media storage format.
Wasn't that because the porn industries supported VHS - as far as i know they support Hd-DVD1moreamp wrote:Yeah I remember when Beta fell to VHS and beta was better by a huge percentage....Oh my god i'm old

Exactly.Francious70 wrote:Actually, the porn business has gone to Blu-Ray
When I heard this same info a month or two back, that is when I went out and picked up a Blu-Ray player.
Not so much was I interested in hi-def porn, but I realize how big of an impact the porn industry has, and my feeling is this will seal the deal on Blu-Ray.
But I must say, porn does look much better in high-def…

From wikipedia, in reference to porn and formats:
It had been reported by various sources (PC World, Ars Technica, CNN, et al) that pornography had been disallowed on Blu-ray Disc, which may have had an effect on the success of the format.[84] However, this is inaccurate, as both formats have said they fully support all material, including porn, and have no control over what companies release with their license.[85] Blu-ray is currently exclusively backed by several adult-movie studios/publishers,[86] including Taisei Co. Ltd. and Total Media Agency Inc. Contrary to many internet blogs, it has been reported by ABC News that the porn industry will not be a factor in the current format war.[87] The main reason is that many pornographic websites have movie downloads as an option, thus making the disc format less important.
