More Granite speakers

Post by Rold Gold »

I need a good 3-4 inch speaker to through into a couple granite cubes I'm making to match my sub. Any ideas for a drop in that'll sound decent in a completely dead enclosure?

They're for my theater so 8ohm. I figured that I really didn't need to have too much more than whats in there now. I also wanted to try-n keep them looking like the BOSE cubes.

I'm gonna make and sell a 5.1 GRANITE speaker set.......Anybody interested..................? The sub enclosure has currently cost me about $125.

Tang Band makes the best budget 3-4" full-range speakers that I know of.

Parts Express has a lot of them. Some examples:

Check the bottom of the page for a PDF spec, which includes a frequency response graph. Ideally you want to be as flat as possible from 100-20kHz.

Here's the complete set. I personally really liked the Bamboo cone drivers, because they were less shrill than the more expensive titaniums. No reviews on the coaxials yet, but they look nice and flat. They should have better off-axis treble performance as well. I think I agree with Brandon; the coax is probably your best bet.

get a pair of pioneer wizzer cone 4" drivers, they are full range.

burn them in, play music for several hour with speaker sitting free air.

toss them in the oven or direct sun (you live in P-town so oven) after burn in, let the surface temp come up to 110-115F then immediately toss in freezer, buy two sets as the magnets may freak out and crack.

A friend of mine swears by this process with these drivers, several others do as well.
