HT Box for 2005 12" XXX

Post by davidc81 »

hey guys, im looking to use my old XXX 12" sub for HT. can you help me with designing a box for it? size is not a factor. i'll probably run it off of a 1000w dayton plate amp or 1300w eD plate amp. i saw some prefabbed sealed boxes on parts express, would 2 or 3 cft work better? if i get a ported box, how should it be and what should i have it tuned to? i'm new to HT so i appreciate all the help you guys can give me!

Those tender little burgers with them little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in ya mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one.. just makes me want to burn this muthafuka down.... Come on, Pookie, let's burn this muthafuka down!!!

Thinking HT??

Ported is usually better for HT
The lower you tune it, the better

make the box big, and it'll be loud.

I'd recommend about 5 cu. ft. for each speaker tuned to about 15Hz. God that'll hurt.

I remember seeing someone use a XXX for HT on the sounddomain forums years ago. The box was MASSIVE and the guy loved it! You might want to do a search over there.

get winISD, put in your T/S parameters, and then play around with the curve. I wen with a 4 cube tuned to 18 Hz with my Xenon and love it. Not the greatest at music, but you just cant beat it for movies.

Well, I've tried designing something for you, but damn if I can't find any T/S parameters for that sub. all REAudio has is the new series subs.

PM TeamPSI on caraudio.com. That is David, the president (figurehead) of RE, I have done numerous deals with him and he is a really good guy. He should be able to help out.

Here ya go man! This took some digging, but I think these are correct. They are for the 2004 model, but I do not believe there were any changes between 2004 and 2005.

Ok. If you want a smooth response down to about 13 Hz (which is good for movies) build a 2ft. x 2ft. x 2ft. box with a port 4" in dia. and 12" long. Flared on both ends. You can do this downfiring, all you'll need to do is build some feet for it to stand on.

Looks like as long as you have your gains set right you should have any overexcursion. And you'll rattle your house off it's foundation. :D

ok i finally ordered everything else for my HT. this is what i ended up getting:

onkyo 605
eD 6t6 towers
eD 6t6 center
eD 5t5 surrounds
wiring from monoprice online.

i got 100' of 12g speaker wire, 5 pairs of banana clips, and 12' subwoofer cable for $48 shipped. not too bad of a deal!

tv i'm using is Samsung LN-T4661F

all together, i got everything for about $1950 shipped (tv $850, speakers $760, receiver $290, wire $50) . not too bad!
