New Denon 3808, how to upconvert?

Post by STROKD »

So Im trying to run some analog cables for some of the gear, and run it through the TV with a single HDMI, and I am unsure how to set the amp up to do this. I read the manual, and got the HD player to work through component video, but the audio RCAs dont work through the HDMI. Does this ever work, or do I need an optical cable? I have swapped the cables out for a HDMI cable and it worked fine, but some of the stuff does not have HDMI out. Anyone know how to do this? :?:

Are you trying to send audio to the TV over HDMI? If so, this wont work. The scaler does video only. No A to D audio conversion for audio.

if you're trying to hook up an HD DVD or BD Player, best best is hdmi to the receiver. thats the only way to get a 1080p signal to your receiver which passes it through to your tv. if you're going to use component cables, you'll only get 1080i resolution which defeats the purpose of getting the HD player to begin with.

Instead of using RCA cables, you should use an optical cable to get surround sound. if your player has a coax output, you can use 1 connector on your rca cable to connect that to the receiver. No need to get another expensive cable. let me know if that helps!

Well sum bitch, that answers one of my questions...

The other problem is I can't get video through a Super video cable to the TV through the HDMI... it should upconvert that right? its just a blank screen. At least I know why the audio doesn't work now.

cause I dont have any speakers! Thats why... lol. This is my parents setup, and they dont have surround sound yet. Dad is using the receiver as more of a switch board, instead of an actual amp... it also controls his McIntosh stereo speakers via pre-out, which doesn't seem to work proplerly either. I think we need an audio out of the TV back to the receiver. It worked this way with the old TV and old amp.

The TIVO only has audio RCAs out, no HDMI, no optical cables... This is the one I am having problems with. The BR player is HDMI, and the HD player is component, (only have 3 HDMI cables). The other HDMI cable is used from the HDDVR player for Satelite (works great) and from the receiver to the TV... the BR and HDDVR work perfect, but thats because its all HDMI. The HDDVD player can work perfect with a HDMI cable, but the video and audio from the TIVO won't. The TIVO should at least have the video working though upscaled through the HDMI from a Super Video cable right? :x This crap is confusing... I just ran 17 cables to my tv from my receiver and did what I wanted. this one cable crap SUCKS.
