Looks nice, but that sub amp is pretty weak, spec wise.. Probably underrated, but I wouldnt think that much..

Weak? Compared to what?

Go find a brand name subwoofer amplifier that puts out 200+ watts for less than $300 and enjoy yourself.

Are plate amps fair game?

Well, this is what I currently use. No triple darlington, but it does put out the rated wattage.

Where do you put the plate amp? In the wall? or into a box?

I never thought to just sell the amp and leave the rest of the speaker in China.

The AS amp line is for contractors and rack mounting. I am not sure it's apples to apples here. Especially since the plate amp is digital. AMPSUB210 is class A/B.

Welcome to the race to the bottom.

Hey, you said find a >200w sub amp for under $300. You didn't specify it had to be A/B and rack mountable. I have no doubts the AS amp is technically superior.

Actually, I said to get an amp like that and enjoy yourself. If powering your home theatre in such a fashion pleases you, good on ya' mate.

I'd say upgrade to the Carver Xi1850 like I want to. It's a couple hun more expensive but TONS more power and has the balls to just about anything ya might want to run in the house.
Power Ratings
1170 watts x 1 (8ohm mono)

1850 watts x 1 (4ohm mono)

370 watts x 2 (8ohm stereo)

585 watts x 2 (4ohm stereo)

925 watts x 2 (2ohm stereo)

Or step it up abit more and get the Xi2600 rated for 2600 watts........

exactly. The power requirements on that amp just wouldnt work for me, or many others, especially in a large room..
