I´m waiting on the wide angle lens for the camera at the moment but sounds like a cool idea for sure!

Have been on the road again yesterday and had a chance to take some pictures together with a friends Golf GTI Mark 1 8)

The Charger was on hold for a while now but since i didn´t have a lot of time to spent money i was able to afford an intake for my car which i always wanted. Thanks to mhyde71 jumping in for further shipping it is at his place now and i can´t wait to take it home with me once i´m in Cornwall (Ontario).

This is a one year only 6 pack crossram from 1970 with optimized flow characteristics. I also have the ability to upgrade to an 2 x 4bbl system because the top lid is changeable.

not sure if its me but I can't see the pics? Sounds like a cool intake though. I am currently polishing a 94-95 mustang cobra intake, or have been spending a few hours here/there when I get the need to loose a few layers of skin on my fingers.... The thing is huge and alot of curves/bends to it so it just takes for ever.

I took the engine apart again to finally upgrade the valve train to the all solid roller style stuff. Also found out why the car wasn´t running very well the last month. The first cam is missing almost completly.

The cam is a hydraulic flat tapped style. I´m running solid lifters for half a year now. It has just been grinded away over time. I´m going with a solid flat tapped camshaft now. Comp Cams 21-231-4 :metal:

I would. If ya need help sourcing the part let me know but I would assume it would not be too hard to find the cam you want somewhere or have one made.

ya gotta love a cam! Yesterday I had to make a trip to the post office and took the long way home to enjoy a nice afternoon and my exhaust. I followed an old buick through our historic downtown area and out to the highway. He made the same left I was going to just a few secs infront of me and when traffic cleared for me I pulled out into the left lane. I was not going to redline it but I was going to accelerate faster then the buick and casually went past him. I get up to the light where I am turning left and get in the turn lane when suddenly the car next to me honks for a sec. It was just fast enough to startle me and look over to see the old guy in the buick was giving me a thumbs up. I imagine over there joerge either gets that expression or just a open-jaw deer-in-headlights look.

It is indeed something very funny to get these looks when just passing by a crowd or pedestrians. 8) I even got a boob flash from a girl once

Yesterday i´ve been at our local thursday night meeting for the first time since may this year. Didn´t trust the car too much lately with all the troubles it gave me during the last month. But it is running very well again now. I even managed to get all dash lights and all the other gimmicks to finally work properly.

Here´s a few pics i´ve taken the last week.

I tested the G-Tech Pro with my BMW during last week to get an idea of how accurate it is and i´m quite impressed. The car did the 0-60 just a second slower than the factory numbers where back in 1997. And that with 190000 miles on it. We also tested it in a few other newer cars and the difference to factory numbers where +/- 0,1sec. Today i finally decided to take the Charger out of the Cave and poped the unit onto to windshield.

Its actually very hard to take off without too much of wheelspin (especially when the outboard carbs kick in too early) but out of ten tries my highest number was 6,43sec and the lowest was 5,72sec.

yea if I had the car when I had that thing I would have tested it out.

Performing a simple intake change on my Charger

I bought a nice Edelbrock STR14-6 Crossram intake a while ago and since the season is over here and the weather sucks now i took the old intake off the engine today with the intention to install this:

Image

The overall height including, the aircleaner assembly, with the Edelbrock Six Pack intake is 28cm. The complete assembly with the STR14-6 is 33,5cm. Sure doesn´t fit under the OEM hood.
That´s why i testfitted this:
Image

I still have the old hood that came with the car when i bought it, so i don´t need to cut the nice one. Picked it up at my parents house to see how it will work out.

At least i manged to testfit the base without any problems the first today
Image

Working on the hood. There was lots of bondo on it and it got a lot lighter when everything was removed.

I also discovered that my 6 pack aircleaner isn´t sitting centered in my engine bay. For die hard mopar guys a well known fact but new to me. I decided to not just cut the aircleaners space requirement out of the hood but all the metal in the section where the scoop will be mounted at.

Image
Image
Image
Image

Another problem was the top lid. The carbs are mountend on an angle, which is compensating for the angle the engine is sitting in it´s bay.
I would have to modify my aircleaner base to make it fit. But since the linkage of the carbs won´t have enough space to move anyways i prefer to just modify the intake lid it´self with a milling machine and get rid of the carburators mounting angles and also cut a channel into the stiffening piece.

Image
Image

Took care of the angle the carbs were mounted at first the next day. The milling machine was quite fun to work with.
Image
Image

I also installed the see thru plugs for the float bowls. Had them at home for half a year already and never felt like installing them. We also changed the main jets from 62´s to 64´s since the car was running a little lean when idling.
Image
Image

Then i took care for having enough space to move the carb linkage.
Image

Last but not least i also ran into the problem that i couldn´t mount the fuel lines. But that was only a small
problem a grinder solved within 5 minutes
Image

Then i put everything back together.
Image

Today i drilled the holes for the accelerator cable and kick down linkage bracket
Image

Then i mounted everything in the car and checked it for clearance and if everything was moving without resistance

Yes indeed. I´m drifting away from car audio more and more and will concentrate on this car and a new project i´ll start next year.

Never the less, lots of progress here again! I did the necessary modifications to optimize flow characteristics inside the manifold.
Image
Image

I finished cutting up the old hood and attached the scoop to it.
Image

Once the liqiud metal was hardened out i mounted the intake on the motor. I had a really hard time finding the 2 long screws inside the intake. At some point the SAE system is really anoying to work with over here.

where did you get the idea to optimize the flow? just curious, interesting...

I found drawings online. The guy (T. Hoover) that did the drawings was an (the) engineer with Chrysler and also responsible for the Super Stock Race Cars back in the day.

Today i finished everything under the hood.

Everthing has been adjusted and checked for leaks after i finshed the installation. I got to say that the throttle response with the very same ignition timing is alot better than the OEM intake and i was pretty speechless when i floored the pedal the first time. Unfortunally i couldn´t go for a ride because it was pooring from the sky. But watch and listen yourself.

Very nice.. T. Hoover is Tom Hoover, a Chrysler engineer like Joerg stated, who is known as the father of the Hemi.

Another Mopar guy..
