if you are near a good sized city, see if you can find a place to custom wire one for you. I found an old guy in phoenix that knew his stuff as he had been doing it for 40 years. He didn't charge any more then the new ones I had been pricing and he said if I ever had issues to let him know. Been 2 yrs on my 200A alt now with no issues.

Well like ttocs said, you could try and find someone to rewind one for you, or check out ebay, they have some on here.

Here is one on ebay, 200 amp thats not too expensive.

I actually bought a cheapy off of ebay, 200A. It lasted for 8 months before I took it in to the old dude that was yoda of the alt world. He showed me how they had gone with the cheapest voltage reguator and brushes which is why it failed so quickly. He replaced that, said the windings were fine as that looked like the only thing they had actually upgraded. This made sence since it would be the same weight as the repaired one and woul even look the job with the heavy duty windings but would not last long enough to get your money out of it.

Check around, maybe there is an english version of yoda over there that can take care of you.

I made a short trip through london, 3 days and it rained 2 and half of them....... Nice place though, good people sure as hell was better then paris but certainly not as good as amsterdam!

I prefer the local guys as they know that if/when there is something wrong that you will be back. The inernet guys know that they are not offering a warrenty and will not do anything for you when it goes out(not if). That is unless you go with one of the big boys but then you are gonna pay for it.

Even if you went with the Grand alternator it would be better then what you have now. If you were to get that, then upgrade the big 3, you should be fine.

You don't have to spend a ton of money but don't buy a cheap unit.... I know a good alt will run ya about $400..... Wrangler NW here in Portland was at one time working directly with PG on some projects. Tom/Stipud runs one of their units and hasn't had any real problems other than it being too cold.... The ebay units are good if it's not a daily driver.... I say spend the money and not get left on the side of the road.....
Those tender little burgers with them little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in ya mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one.. just makes me want to burn this muthafuka down.... Come on, Pookie, let's burn this muthafuka down!!!

big 3 upgrade means upgrading the stock power wires. This includes the wire from the battery to chassis, chassis to the block, and the power wire from the alt to the + side of the battery(with a fuse!). The stock wiring is always much smaller then any power wire you will run for your amp, so if you do not up grade these they act as the choke point or weak link in the power system.

I would rather have a 130 amp Wrangler unit than a 200 amp eBay setup, for the same reason I buy PG amps over Pyramid. The Wranglers are an absolute work of art. Mine has been cranking out a solid 200 amps without a hiccup for over 5 years now.
