99-2005 GM/Chevy factory alt. upgrades.

Post by smgreen20 »

For what it's worth, I have a 2k GMC Sierra w/a 5.3L I went to upgrade the factory alt (that was a 105 amp) to the 130 amp factory alt. You'll need a new belt as well. The caseing on the 130a alt is a 1/2 " wide which moves the pulley by a 1/4". The new belt needed is 20mm longer, and even though it doesn't seem like you'll need the new belt........ believe me, you will. I had to put the alt in its place w/o the mounting bolts in as a neighbor came over to help hold the pulley tensioner just to get the belt over the alts pulley. I know this is more of a how-to, but it is classified as tunning I feel.

Cool. I drive a 98, so mines different. On my motor there's the normal spot for the alt, but the bracket has a second part to it the allows for a longer alt.
