Whenever I accelerate from a stop theres a loud thunk and possible a grind or groan from the right side of the back of the car. I think It may be a mount.

How do I isolate the noise to see what it is?

check the trans mount and the arm from the rear axle that mounts to the back of the trans.

it sounds like it is a problem in the differential with you saying a clunk and a grinding noise, but more than likely it is just a very worn out U-joint. If you have a friend handy, you can have them look at the drive shaft and see if there is play at the U-joints when you switch from forward to reverse gears.

Hey bud, had the same thing happen with my 97 Z-28 and turned out the bump stops were totally gone due to age and gettin' a little froggy at times. They're located just behind and above the rear brake calipers. Also check ur panhard rod, lower control arms and torque arm for worn bushings. Another thing to do would be to drain the rear diff. and look for any metal shavings in the fluid, which would be a sure sign of the gear teeth gettin' chewed due to wear and tear and or a low fluid level. Just my .02c. ")

I vote u joint, or trailing arms. J had a similar clink sound followed by a whine when accelerating from a dead stop on my 06 avalanche, it turned out to be a defective trailing arm bushing. But, if the sound happens while coasting, then accelerating, then I would think its a u joint. But definitely check your diff fluid for shavings.
