gosh has it been that long?! My fall went really badly as I have been sick more often then normal. I have been getting some little things done here/there but its main hold up was what I was hoping would help speed things up. Tuning on the 94/95s is a PIA because it was the last 2 years they ran the obd1 wiring system but it was a bit of a hybrid between obd1/2 even having an obd2 harness that does nothing. There are not a lot of tuners that will work on them and even fewer that are good with them. We have 2 dynos in town and they both have enough of a mixed rep that I don't want to go there. Closest reputable tuner is in louisville and with the car on a trailer, time change it would be about 4-5 hrs one way and I just don't travel well with my stomach crap. After a lot of thought that I am already $900 deep in 3 engine tunes and will need one more now and probably more later. There are a few good engine management systems that are self learning and you can tune them yourself and after considering a few of them I went with the Holley HP EFI system. It seemed the most user freindly on the software side, has good user support online with a forum and even better yet their home office is only 90 mins away where they have classes I am already signed up for(in march unfortunately but that was the first avialable). It has some cool options like the ability to use a digital dash from a touch screen, progressive led shift lights and all kinds of adjustability depending on what you want to do. I am almost done modifying the dash now for this while I have been researching the wiring. I had hoped with a ford wiring kit available that it would be a lot more plug/play but the ford kit of course comes with GM ends on it for the AIT, TPS, fuel/oil pressure you know all the little stuff but it plugs right into the injectors and dist.... I was also on a hunt for a knock sensor as ford discontinued them long ago and most suppliers dropped out. After I got it then I was on the hunt for a wire harness to plug into it and then finally on the hunt to figure out what wires were what on it. I think I have all the loose ends taken care of now and just have to do a couple more small changes before I can wire it up and see what happens. I will get some pics up of the dash gauges soon as its coming out cool and will also then have the ability to play into the stereo for audio or video.

But otherwise Like I said just been too damn sick and having too many issues in the ER. I have had a lot of issues there but never ended up hand cuffed to the gurney after the off-duty cop tackled me back into it. I mean I was way out of control and trying to sit in a wheel chair to get out. He could have just stood in front of me as I had been sick/pucking for over a day and was not fighting but of course he had to go all crazy.

I have been knee deep in the holley hp efi install now since nov. I was hoping it would be an easier install but there have been more then a few surprises that took some time to figure out. I have had to do some rewiring on the top of the motor as this system replaces the stock ECU and all of its wiring. Again the bastard year of 94/95 mustangs made that a little interesting as they have a different ignition system then the years before or after so it took some time to find the info I needed. Then it was a matter of wiring up all the sensors and getting the wires though the firewall, where I am at now. Depending on how you do the setup there will be some relays that you will need to add to drive accessory componants and for me it was power for the electric water pump, coil, and the fan as well as a high current relay for the fuel pump(310 liters pump). I made a panel to mount everything on that will go in the glove box location and at first it seemed like I had plenty of room.
Image\
but after adding some dist blocks to make it easier to wire, a small fuse block and relay block it filled up pretty quick. I still have a little room to add onto but I still need to find a home for my meth kit so...
Image
Not pg wire but I ran an 8 awg pwr/ground wire to power the panel, then the other wires were ran to drive the fan and fuel pump. I am using the loud checkerboard pattern so later it will be super easy to diagnose what wires are for the ecu and what are not.
Image
I have no idea how much time I spent looking through my wiring manuals to do this and realized that after removing all the stock wiring on the motor that its not going to be as helpful next time. I started a mustang diary/manual and made some hand drawn schematics that my brother is going to help me clean up/digitize when I am done with them so they will be easier to read and access.
Image
I only wish I had grabbed a bigger one as after loading it up with manuals and a few hand drawings, its almost full already...
Image
I now have the motor wired and just need to pull the wires through to the interior, which will be a bitch to do today..... But its nice to think that after this I could be really close to starting it, if its wired right. I thought I was good with automotive wiring although I have not got into specific ignition wiring and how the sensors work till this project so its been a lot slower then I thought it would be.

forgot to mention one cool part of the holley system is that it can hook up to a laptop/tablet to show the gauges. I moved the plx designs gauges to go next to the screen and have room for some leds for turn signal/brights/ect on the side in the carbon fiber. The small screen sticking out of the top is a progressive shift light as well as some leds to show monitor/show different things depending on what I program it to do.

I had to run power to the fuse box assembly I designed and made and finally had to hook it all up. I think I have been avoiding it because it was 10lbs of crap in a 5lb sack as far as wiring was concerned between the 0 awg and the stock wires with no room to play. But I am happy to say it fit!
Image
and did I mention I added some lights even before the block lights up(green leds swapped for blue).
Image
I had to scrap the idea to use the tablet instead of holleys screen because the speedo and odometer would not work and those are kinda handy for a car on the road registered. I was happy to find a new/used screen someone else was not using as a really nice metal mount for the screen in my specific car. So I covered it with CF and here I am just holding the dash over it to not scratch the clear on the CF. I also have some brake/bright and turn signal indicators with the symbols on them I can't wait to add to finish it.
Image
with all this done today I realized I am pretty much done on the engine management system short of testing it all. With that realization I ordered my batteries and went into what I hope is the final prep to turn the key and start it. I ordered some wiring harnesses to make connections easier, a USB spot so I can easily connect a memory card to download tunes/data as well as for my radar detector. Some misc fittings as well will keep the mail lady busy next week.

I have also been working on the ms1000 and getting it closer and worked out a deal for a custom plexi for it  Its still got the standard gold logo but then a little surprise for when the lights are on it as well. Along with that I have been going over and over where to put its big ass in the car when it is done. After a lot of thought I think I am going to try and make an assembly to take up the spot where the rear seat was that would allow it to be motorized up to show the top and bottom, as well as the gear below it. Sounds fun huh?

I am happy to say I started some new medicine after the last episode 5 weeks ago now and have been doing well enough I dropped another med I have been on for years but wanting to stop. So far so good I am not as tired out and been getting around better but at the same time I spend all day yesterday in the fetal position so better but not perfect. I have almost had a semi-normal schedule more then a few times actually eating breakfast and lunch which is just foreign to me now as for the past decade my stomach was normally upset till noon-5pm and just had no appetite. I have been using the time well to get a lot of little crap done from terminating a bunch of ends on the holley stuff with deutsch connectors so I can easily remove them later when needed. I got my odyssey pc1200 and pc1750 batteries. I went with a bigger starting battery as the kinetic was JUST enough when the car was naturally asperated and now being supercharged I was afraid it might be too much. The extra battery storage will not hurt now with the PG alt powering it all. I started on one of the battery mounts today and I have it %80 of the way done. I am waiting on some indicators that have the parking brake, turn signal and bright symbols in them to finish the dash but I could not help putting it all together to see how it looks When the indicators are in there to fill that last bit of space I think it will change things up a bunch even before I start the custom dash screen configerations available from both holley and PLX.
Image
I need to get the batteries in so i can start testing power on different wires to hopefully turn the key. I started in on the software side as well to set up the basic engine parameters and get things ready for the baseline tune.

after sitting all this time my batteries were dead and needed to be replaced. After a little thought I went with a different brand and a bigger system and starting battery. So far I built and mounted the big one and have a little more to do on the smaller starting battery. This big mama-jamma should keep the ms1k rockin.
Image
I also finally terminated the ground wires. It was a job I had been avoiding because of the location in the fender and it was not fun but its done...

still trying to finish up the wiring and I had to run an ignition wire to my voltage reglulator. While I was connecting it I realized that the regulator was going to be in the way of the supercharger belt(I put it there prior to the supercharger) and needed to move it. No big deal but after I realized that I also noticed that the belt would still hit my abs module as well. The choice was to ditch abs for the supercharger(probably not a good idea) or figure something out. I was able to flip the abs unit from the inside of the frame rail to the outside so its out of the way then I just had to bend/cut/flare all teh brake lines..

Image

once that was all moved/bent then I realized I hardly had any room for my air filter. The old silicon boot actually put it right were the abs was so I had to cut it down and make it shorter to fit.

Image

I have a few more things to clean up on this part of the project but I also made hotel reservations for bowling green ky for holley efi training to clear up any software problems I am still having. I leave next tues for class on wed.

unfortunately the training classes ended the way I was afraid they would with me running back to my hotel 4 hrs into it to puke the rest of the afternoon. I started some new medicine in feb but it caused more problems then it fixed. After a month I quit taking it and now 8 weeks later I am still hoping the problems it caused will go away more. The last two weeks I have finally been able to get up and around a little more but still sucks getting sick from my medicine, again. Missing the training as well as just being more sick more often led me to some depression and until I finally started to feel better and got in the garage this week after not even looking at it for 6 weeks. Moving the ABS module was a complete pain in taking care of all the little details of the correct flares/fittings/bends and making mounts for all the lines. After that was done I made a bracket for the voltage regulator for the PG HO alt as well as another electronic module for the car called the constant control relay module. Here you can see the line lock mounted to the back to the abs module, and next to it is the balmar voltage regulator.
Image
on the back of the bracket is the CCRM module

got the intake put back together now and after a little time cleaning/polishing its nice to see it all together again.
Image
Still playing wack-a-mole with chasing gremlins. Seems like I fix one problem and create two more. For example installed the supercharger to discover the belt was in the way of the ABS module. Moved the abs module to discover that now I needed to move the CCRM and voltage regulator... I discovered the supercharger belt tensioner was on wrong so I corrected it, only to discover that the tensioner rubs the radiator hose when its is mounted correctly...

That engine compartment is REALLY looking good! I'm glad to see you back working on this project. With all of the added goodies you've installed on this car, there was bound to be some issues getting everything perfect. Keep up the good work.

its been nice to feel better and work on it but then I installed the supercharger crank pulley and discovered it rubbed the aftermarket coolant overflow tank so made some modifications to the mount to pull it in and out of the way. Now it looks like the electric water pump is somehow in the way of the supercharger belt

I was dreading the idea of putting the stock pump back on. After finding a nice deal on that perty perty polished electric meziere water pump I really didn't want to take it off. After some time and thought and contacting meziere I decided to try and take the idler pulley off as they said it would buy me a 1/4". Taking it off got me JUUUUUUUST enough space to clear it now and as the belt wears/stretches the tensioner will pull it further away.
Image

Can't believe its been 2 weeks since I worked on it but for a change it was not my health slowing me down. Mom has been sick with dizzyness/nausea for a while now and it got bad enough we had to take her to the hospital. After a ct scan they found she has excess water on her brain and installed a drain to help equalize the pressure. We got her home yesterday and she is getting her strength back. Hopefully that will continue and I can get out in the garage but needless to say its just a dumb car when mom is sick.

got some more time in the car and the list is getting shorter. I finally completely ran the power wires so they are tapped and tied down where needed. I thought I was going to have to run to the local car audio shop and pay $15-20 for some crap fuse holder when yesterday digging through my extra/junk drawer I found this little sucker that worked out perfect. What is the rule about fusing power wires? Isn't it 3-4" from the battery?
Image

I was also happy to finally get all the harnesses I have been needing to finish some other areas like the dash.
Image

I have been getting a little crazy with wire harnesses everywhere but I want to still be able to remove things later if needed. The heater core in these is mounted behind the dash and requires the entire dash to be removed so I have been trying to be sure they can all be disconnected easily.

the tank and cover/diffuser was a biatch to get in place but its there now and happy with it. I look forward to seeing people on the ground at shows to check it out.
Image
In other good news for some time now I have been wanting to get a nice dual bank charger for the AGM batteries I got to ensure they last a long long time. The nice chargers are expensive and I had my eye on a version in the sportsman catagory by Dual Pro that would charge both batteries at the same time. I was lucky to see it get below $250 and was still holding out. Back in june I did a random search on amazon and found a similar model but in the professional series(one above the sportsman catagory) that had 5 amps more capacity per bank, and was only $160 shipped. The other wierd thing about the add was it said it takes 2 months to ship, but at that price I could wait. So I ended up waiting 6 weeks but it arrived and now the new listing shows it at $330, so I am happy.

been making more progress on my to-do list but its still a little bit of one step forward two back. I have a bad habit of nearly finishing a project, either finger tightening all the bolts and nuts or just getting them to the point of need to be torqued when I say I will come and finish this later/shortly. Because of this dirty habit I have been planning to do a complete once-over on the car to check/torque/tighten every bolt I can see and have had my hands on. I started at the rear end and was happy to do it as I found a few that needed it. I got as far as the rear end(starting at the back bumper so not far) before I saw another small detail I said I would finish later. I installed a steeda adjustable rear sway bar a while back and its a pretty cool kit that installs with some brackets in addition to the stock sway bar to add additional adjustability. It mounts to the axle and hugs the differentail nice and tight, tight enough that with an aftermarket billet diff cover I installed I noticed it was rubbing it on the side. I thought it would take 15 mins to lower the bar, clearance some of the cover and then put it back up but 3 hrs later of Drop the bar, clearance the cover, raise the bar and repeat I had a floor full of glitter and was surprised how much I had to take off.
Image
after that I made more progress on the loose nuts/bolts and got a few parts I ordered in and have been working on the list of stuff to do and making it smaller. Progress will be slowed when my brother comes into town in a week to hang out with him but I hope to have it started near my birthday at the end of the month.

I have found a few of the last pieces of this motor puzzle I needed to put it back together and have been searching for for a while. I am now to the point on the motor I am going to start refilling all the fluids :D
Image

I had to install a meth/water injection nozzle and didn't have much space to put it. After a lot of thought I decided to mount it to the throttle body but it was going to be tight to miss all the moving parts. you can see there is just BARELY enough space between the boot and the throttle body linkage. I don't think it stops a mm before it but PERFECT!
Image

Image

I had been waiting to put the exhaust on till I had all the bolts tightened up and I finally got to do all that. I thought it would be an easy job to mount the mufflers on the hangers and tighten the two nuts down BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.... When I picked up the mufflers they sounded like rattles. They would be great to back up a good la cucaracha mariachi band but not so great on a car when you can dump this out of it.
Image
There is a significant amount of rust/scale on the inside so I was happy to find a place that still had them since side exhaust mufflers like this are not that common. I ordered them sunday, they said they were in stock and would be shipped out monday and be here thurs. Then of course tues shows up and they have still not shipped and then show they will ship on thurs, not arrive thurs... So thurs comes and they make a packing label but tracking shows it was not picked up till 8pm friday and now they hope to be here wed. Wonder what will get in the way next.....

Got the mufflers in and after some learning now I have welded my first exhaust. Its funny when I think back to all the things I have learned to do on this project.
Image
Then I got all the fluids in the car ready to start. Well almost all the fluids I remembered everything except the gas the first time we tried to turn it over. That problem was lost in the search for some wires that were not connected that needed to be and it was not till later that night I realized I forgot to fill the tank. It was a good thing though as tonight when we went back out I remembered I also did not check to make sure the electric water pump was powering up. When we looked at it tonight it needed a fuse inserted to turn it on. Unfortunately after more cranking tonight it would still not start. I am going to check tomorrow to make sure I have spark and hopefully its not too far away from turning over.

It fired up tonight. I have an exhaust leak, can't seem to get the fuel pressure high enough and have a couple other answers to find tomorrow but for the first time in years its firing up, just needs some fine tuning.....

been chasing problems since the last update and I today I finally discovered a ground for my starting battery had some how been pulled out of the compression fitting and causing voltage issues. Got it reconnected and it started to smooth out. Lowered fuel pressure and it got a little better yet. I think I need more gas in the tank and need to make a change to my pcv valve but for the first time it actually started and tried to run for a little while but with the pcv popping out like it did there is no way it would run for long. Now if I can just figure out what to do with it as it seems everyone I ask has a different idea of what is best.

it looks like I got all the wiring loose ends tied up and now its just learning the software and figuring it all out. Holley has a great tech support line that I spent some time on today and we got a couple more things figured out. After I hung up I could not wait to upload the new tune and see what happened.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTQvhuEZl4s

its not perfect but its better. I needed to find some flow data on my injectors and unfortunately needed to take the upper intake off to find the make/model of the injectors. Hopefully the new flow data and some help to put the upper back on and it will be running asap.

Are you running that old school SVO side exhaust?

Re: momstang rebuild begins.

it is not a true SVO as it does not have the letters on the side, but it is a copy of it and the plumbing inside is real so kinda-sorta yes/no but same difference unless your an svo snob.
