no big updates as I have been chasing a gremlin for a while now. I was having issues with it starting after it sat for a while where it would take 4-5 LONG cranks before it would fire. I thought the battery was a little small and the voltage dipping more then I liked so I installed a new battery and ran a new shorter power wire for the starter and it still did it. Finally I had a friend suggest it could be fuel pressure and air in the lines. To test this theory I upped the fuel priming time(time the pump runs prior to starting) to 7 secs and I will be damned it fired over in .44 secs according to the datalog and now has fired right up 3 times in a row. I celebrated yesterday by putting the wheels back on the ground and taking a short drive through my neighborhood. Good news is it starts now, gooder news is I took the time to bleed the brakes again while the wheels were up and it seems to have helped a lot as it stops much better now do. The steering still sucks as the alignment is way off but it should be good enough to limp it to the local shop to do that hopefully this week....

Mine does that too, theres no valve to keep pressure in the system so I have to prime it unitil I hear the pressure regulator make noise. Lol.

it seems a little strange as the gauges all showed that it still had 43 psi while cranking so I am not sure how it was able to do that with air in the line. I don't like feeling like I am in a diesel waiting for the glow plugs to heat up so I ordered a check valve that I think I can just slide in between my pump and post filter with out too much trouble.

That should fix it. Lol. I thought you installed the check valve in the return line. I could be wrong though

I need to figure that out for sure because my thought was that with out the pump or anything else there that its no wonder the return drains back but the same guy that helped me figure out that is was a fuel problem said to put it after the pump.

yea it had been a while. Back in oct I thought I was at the point that it was almost ready to get on the road when suddenly it stopped starting. I checked a couple of little things, it looked like the plugs were fouled again(3rd time) and I still have no idea why. I had to walk away because the idea of parting it out was starting to sound good. This last week I decided to try some more. With the plugs constantly fouling out I thought I would try a different brand or gap. After a little research as to what will fit my trickflow heads I was going to go with NGK rather than the autolite I had been using. I want to vatozone, said I need 8 autolite 3924 spark plugs and of course he wanted to know what kind of car I had. I told him that I didn't have stock heads in the car and the stock plugs would not work and I needed the 3934s. He again just looked at me as though he was helpless unless the confusor told him too. So I told him the year/make/model and then when he got to the spark plug list 3924 wasn't listed NO FUCKING SHIT! I sat there and watched him scroll up the list, scroll down to the bottom of the list and tell me 3 times that 3924 is not on the list. So I ask him can we look up the part number and just get it. This was not possible.... I sat there for 10 mins while this dopey bastard tried to sell me spark plugs but I don't think he knew what they were, or where they were. He had a dumbass assistant as well but he was 5 ft away, on his phone the entire time never even looked up. I walked out and went to the next shop down the road.

So then I go to install them. I take the 1rst out, put the new one back in and it keeps turning and turning to the point I started to think I stripped it, but it finally stopped. #2 plug was the same thing as it seemed to turn for ever. I took #3 out and compared it to the new ones expecting them to be the same and suddenly it hit me. HOLY SHIT.......

Either I had the wrong plugs in this whole time, or I am about to put the wrong plugs in and with the extra length I could be into the piston/valves... After looking it back over 3923(1 step cooler than the 3924s for the supercharger) are correct and somewhere(I can't imagine where after the story above) someone gave me plugs for the stock heads. Needless to say I will NEVER swap plugs with out comparing every little detail on the old/new. So Now they are in, the car starts up but idles at 1700 rpm. I check for vac leaks and can't find any so as much as I didn't really want to I adjusted the throttle stop screw down. I ended up turning it 3 complete turns(1080 degrees) to get it back down to 875 rpms with the IAC slightly open and its starting and idling much better now. Looking at the data last night at the same engine temp when it was running back in oct its using %25 less fuel now too. Its smoking a little more than I would like but I picked up a bottle of seafoam last night as I am sure after fouling out 3 sets of plugs the rest of the combustion chamber needs a cleaning. It will be fun to see the smoke from the side exhaust :) but that is where I am at now as unfortunately my stomach got wind of my hope to do something and has filed a last minute petition to stop my fun... But hopefully there will be more good news shortly.

I forgot imgures pics are huge on here. IF you hit control "-" it can make it small enough to see. Use control + to go back to 100% I gotta figure that crap out.

Funny story, NOW....... I back the car out of the garage to do the seafoam. I put a little in the gas tank, and then pull a vac line to feed some into the intake. I follow the instructions and let it sit for 15 mins and then fire it up to enjoy the show. I am giving it gas to 3500 rpms a few times and after the smoke stops maybe its a placebo effect but I thought it was idling smoother. So I go to pull it back into the garage and as soon as I give it a little gas and let off the clutch it completely dies. Then after that its just cranking but no start. Being so happy with how it was running just moments before combined with the fear I really messed something up with the seafoam led me to flip out a bit fearing the worst now after being so close. I had to leave it outside that night as I stewed. I have never been closer to parting the mofo out to the point I made a list of the parts I could take off of it and the prices I hoped to get. I actually surfed around looking at new/used car adds dreaming of a few while dreaming of fixing the car with a match. I did have some rational thoughts as well. I pulled a plug and it was wet with fuel, so no spark? I put a timing light on it to confirm there was no spark. I still had the rpms reading in the dash so the sender in the dist should be good which left fords thick film ignition(TFI) module, and the coil. The TFI was fairly new and I didn't have an extra, the coil was +10 yrs old and I did have an old one that should be good. So I slapped it on it and it was a strange happy dance filled with curse words and stomping as well when it did crank over. While I was comparing old/new data to find the problem it looked like my fuel pressure had dropped a bit so I upped it 10 lbs and now its starting much faster as well. I am going to do an oil change now after fearing fuel in my oil after all the cranking with no spark and running rich this whole time and other than needing a friend to help me make final adjustments on the front steering its never been closer(KNOCK ON WOOD).

its been starting up nice and quick over the last week. Still smoking a little more than I would like but I am sure that combustion chamber still has some carbon to blow out of it after running rich for so long. Now the problem I was having was with the brakes as they were sticking enough I could not push it. Everything on it from the master to the rotors is new from baer so I got in contact with them and after going through a couple checks they said I probably just need to put a few miles on it to bed the pads and season the rotors. So today I took care of a couple last minute things and then went for a short spin around the block. I got back and checked and the rotor were not warm and it was able to roll when pushed now so I took another lap and got into them a little more. On the last stop I heard a thump/pop but I think it was just the new fire ext I just picked up and had thrown in the pass floorboard. I am going to get it back in the air just long enough to make a trip under it and check every nut/bolt that I can get my hands on and after that I will take it in for an alignment. Today was good :)

I have been keeping very busy on the paint, but its just about done with the polish and ready for paint. its probably just easier to check out my instagram as the phorum doesn't seem to like the links anymore Not sure why they are so big or how to make them smaller.

things are going well(knock on wood). I actually took the jack stands out and put the tires on the ground. It is still firing right up now and it still makes me grin after struggling with it for so long. It was running so well I thought why not go for a ride? So far I have only taken it on short drives. I live on a small loop maybe a 1/4 mile long to go around and at the most I have taken 2 laps and then been worried about something and gone home. It was still pulling to the left but nowhere near as bad anymore and the engine was running better than ever, so I went right past the short loop turn. I didn't get it out of the neighborhood because of the alignment and because of that I felt bad getting up to 30 but it ran really well. I am hoping to get the alignment done on monday and put a few miles on it to shake out the next of the gremlins...

Not a pg deq but some other brand yet to be determined. With the 3 way active front it makes a nice 8 channel deq almost useless. I realized its ready to get the alignment done but I needed to get the door locks under control before I handed the keys to someone else. I was too too cool for school and shaved the lock on the doors thinking I know I can get the alarm to do the hard work. Well it was time to get the alarm working....
Image
compustar with glass/tilt sensor, gps tracking and a window module to control the windows if the locks should fail. Realistically the way the windows are designed on the car its easy to get into with a coat hanger for the worst case scenario. I am waiting on some little stuff to do the alarm. While I am I decided to finish the radar detector speaker mount. I wanted to pt it in the stock sail panel location and didn't think it would be a big deal till I opened up the little cube made to go under a dash and found a speaker with no mounting points. I made two pieces of acrylic with a ledge machined in them .06" that allows the speaker to be sandwiched between them.

at that point when I make the speaker mount I could not help but think that not sure why but it might look cool to light up the area around the speaker. After a little thought I realized I could use the radar detector led output to light it up red when it alerts. So I used my cnc to make some acrylic rings to mount leds in and then machined a slightly larger ring out of the scrap hdpe from plugging the hole in my door to diffuse the light.
Image
That ring mounts behind the speaker and the acrylic mount I made.
Image
It was then that I realized that the grill that goes over it that has grill cloth on it would block most of the light. So I decided to strip the cloth off of it and sand it smooth and then it occurred to me I had these badges I got YEARS ago that I had been waiting for the perfect place to put them. I think this works.
Image
I used a black pearl paint that has a really neat pop of colors when its in direct light and I smoothed the badges in so they are nearly flush with the surface. But now the most important part, how does it light up?
Image
I am really happy to say its actually brighter than I thought it would be and the HDPE diffuses the light perfectly to make a nice halo.
The alarm has taken me longer than I thought but I realized my wiring standards have risen making for the majority of the install time. That along with getting sick, getting better, my dog getting sick and still cleaning up after him at all hours its taken longer than the 3 hours it use to take. I installed the window module to control both windows in both directions in case the locks should ever fail. Its the black box at the top of the panel and while I was in there I made the plug for the large window motor hole out of hdpe.
Image
I hate bare unlabeled wires so now all wires I run are in color coded techflex and labeled on heat shrink in a few places that I have wire runs. These three runs took me about 90 mins to prep.
Image
and have you ever installed an alarm?
Image
But there is a 65 page manual to help you :) I wish I could show you a few of the tricks I made with out compromising the security aspect. I came up with a really cool starter kill that could not be more out in the open, and yet more hidden because of that. But anyone that is in the car looking for it will have to contend with the interior siren that is a 108db super high pitch siren that is also called an interior pain generator. I have used them before and found them to be successful at fending off some mischevious friends wanting to mess with me when it was just hidden under the dash. I found a mounting spot that could not be any louder where it is located. I still have to wire up the led(which should be cool) and a couple little things but hopefully I can finish it up before I decide to add the strobe lights I am dreaming of now...
