My 71 Blazer Project starting to take shape

Post by teamradrz1 »

I stopped by the body and paint shop today and my Blazer is almost ready for paint the primer is so smooth it looks like semi-gloss. they have some more work to do on the jams and dash and they will start painting should be done within the next 2 months hopefully. here is some pictures of the progress from what it looked like when I started to before I took it to the paint shop.

here it is from my home paint job, good 20 footer but up close the paint was starting to flake off, my first lesson don't paint in extreme cold weather
Image

just threw this one in cause my niece is a cutie
Image

Here is after taking it apart if you look at the side where the paint is missing was only from a pressure washer

This is after I put the freshly painted 350 back in

Got rid of the racing buckets and found some 2006 Acura TSX leather heated electric seats
Image

started putting it back together with new sheet metal, then ended up finding original doors as they fit better and built better.

first coat of primer, I also replaced the hood with a cowl induction one

so that's all the pics I have at that point I found rust under the rockers and cut it all out and welded in new metal and dropped it off at the body shop it has been there since May of last year so as it gets close I'm getting really excited been working on this project for 6 years and have almost everything in new or like new condition in my garage waiting for her to come home.

pretty damn close I just had to oval out the rear holes on the seat bracket another 1/2 inch and the front part of the bracket fits the contour of the floor drop perfectly. I couldn't believe how nice they fit.

I also replaced all the old body bushings with poly and added a 2" body lift and replaced the old 4" lift kit that had blocks in the back to an all spring 6" lift.

Funny about your paint, because my friend and I just painted his car in -25*C (-13*F) this winter... it's been holding up well so far though

yeah mine lasted about 3 years before it started bubbling then every little scratch would take off paint

***UPDATE***

Stoped by the shop today and the truck is done being sanded and is completely taken apart they did the final seam sealer sections today to cure over the weekend and should be in the paint booth Monday or Tuesday of next week! They are spraying all the jams with the truck apart then will reassemble and spray the exterior. I'm so stoked this thing could actualy be ready in a couple weeks at this rate. This has been a 6+ year restoration job and although it is not a complete frame off it's as about as close as I can do. Damn near everything has been replaced.

rewired the whole truck with a painless wiring harness
new fenders, cowl hood, core support
new shocks, leaf springs, drivelines and braded brake lines
Made an instrument cluster from several used ones I picked up to make one nice one, even rolled the odometer to 00000
new carpet, seats, door panels, dash pad.
All new exterior grill, bumpers, emblems, door handles, mirrors and light lenses

The only major things I'll need to finish later is front suspension(ball joints), dual exhaust and new wheels and tires.

in the words of my painter, "this will really make the red POP!"

other than that I have no idea but he's the pro so I just say OK cool!

When you use brighter base colors, it makes the paint jump off...or Pop like you said.....personally I think white is the best color for this option....but not a good choice when finishing in red....that is why he went with yellow would be my first guess.....looks sweet
