Finally! :lol: We got a 3" lift, new shocks in the rear, and new tires. For tires we went with Pro Comp All Terrains. They are not to agressive, but still get good reviews for off road use. We gained about 3" in the back and almost 4 1/2" in the front. We were able to go two tire sizes bigger thanks to the lift. I think it looks soooooooooo much better.

nice man!!! I hope to be putting a small lift on my grand cherokee when I buy tires at the end of the summer.!!

does the FJ have IFS??? if so what type of lift did you buy, and how would you rate it??? the biggest factor for me is how the company engineers the big front support bracket...most are huge and un sightly sometimes...they've gotten better though....

It does have IFS, and I didn;t have to mess with it at all. This lift is a spring lift only, with a 1/2" spacer in the front to level it off. If I would have gone any bigger I would have to mess with that bracket, and that is something I was not willing to do. Here is the lift that I am running, I also added new rear shock, but kept the front struts.

cool. yeah IFS can get a little tricky, and the parts for lifts get bulky and hard to install properly. Alot of cheaper systems may throw the vehicle up in the air as desired, but alot don't ride well, and the lower support bracket usually eats up half or more of the ground clearance gained by the lift!!

glad to hear you're happy with your lift though, and pro comps are killer tires too. nice choice. l

how does it ride with the new lift and tires??? handle different?

Rides good so far. It has a totally different feel, more solid, but I can tell it has a higher center of gravity. I can't wait to get it off road and see how it does! 8)

Wow you had a lot of forward rake in the first pic. Are they normally like that?

Yep, that is bone stock. Toyota has always had a problem with that in either the front or rear. I remember people were putting leveling springs in the rear of the 3rd gen 4Runners like I had. Now the FJ's are leaning forward! It's OK, I got it right now! :lol: :lol:

Yep, the leafs in the rear of 2nd and 3rd gen 4Runners tend to sag.

I bet you're right. I'm probably thinking of 1st gen and 2nd gen, despite their other differences, I now think they shared a similar rear leaf design. 2nd gen got the IFS, I know that.

As a 1st gen 4runner owner, and modifier i feel i have the chime in here. Solid front axles were replaced with IFS in toyota 4runners and pickups in the last half of 1985. So half the generation of 1st gen 4runners had solid fronts and the last half had IFS. 85 was also the year toyota stop putting the factory locker in the rear, untill they came out with the E-Locker. 2nd gen 4runners 1990 +, most had coils but i have seen them with leafs. Yes the leafs sag out like crazy, easy to change out tho. done it several times. And they rust out like crazy. If you have ever wondered why the older toy`s rusted so bad, its because toyota used recycled steel to fab their panels from in that era. up to around 94-96. Lol, even using new metal tho, they still rust.

I like your FJ man, its really nice. Looks really good now with that lift. i like how it sits nice and even..... You should so sell me your altimeter, lol.

I want to do a small lift to my ranger and put some bigger rubber on it as well..... Looks good.

Are you going to change your gearing? I have a 4" lift on my 96 bronco, and with stock gearing I am a shifting fool in the hills. I recommend regearing, I want to add 4.10's to mine. I know I will loose some mileage, but I should run hills a lot better.

actually if you are running bigger tires you can make up gas mileage by running a lower gear!
i had found a formula to figure it out by tire size, engine and trans combo to get the best mpg on a jeep forum.

i will see if i can find it again :wink:

that fj should be close 4.10 stock. thats what my 4runner is/was. 4.56 with 35" tires will save you lots of axle parts in the long run....... 33" tires 4.10. you could do 35"s on a 4.10. but not for the long haul. and they would have to be toyota gears....
