Went fishing today!!

It was opening day for me, I was so excited! All in all a pretty damn good day. I bet I caught 40+ fish and the old man probably got around 25 or so. We got there about 8:00 in the morning, but the ice was already melted too much where we normally go. So, we drove around until we found a nice little hole out of the wind. Turns out it was at the boat ramp (that was iced over). They have built about a 200' jetty next to the boat ramp so that people can still land their boat when the wind is blowing. Turns out it blocks the sun also so the ice was just starting to melt there. The best part is that after us fishing there for about 2 hours or so some old guys showed up and started fishing the same hole, but couldn't catch anything. Twas the funnies watching them as we pulled up fish after fish.

Here are the pics from the day, critique away!!

Here are a few more. Actually the last two with me and the old man were shot with the wife's Sony point and shoot. I didn't want to get the new Pentax close to the water.

I'm using the Pentax K100d that I bought off of woot.com for $240. It's just a beginner camera, but I'm just a beginner so it's working out good for me.

Well, if those are pro like pics it sure as hell wasn't my doing. That's the great thing about Utah, the damn place is beautiful! Now only if we could do something about the people here........

I don't see much to improve :)

One exception: the top (first) shot. That is really difficult for the camera to capture. Either tell it to spot meter on the bright parts or or try using the bracketing to let you create a HDR later.
apart from that, nicely done. BTW: the K100d is weather sealed, I believe? you can get it damp without too many issues...

Thanks for the kind words Bret! I have seen many of your pics so that's a damn nice compliment coming from you.

I really am not afraid of criticism, because I can't learn if I don't know what I am doing wrong so if you guys do see anything that needs help don't be afraid to speak up!

Your pictures are brilliant. What you are doing wrong is murdering fish.

Catch and release PETA boy!! I haven't kept a fish I caught since the last time I was in Alaska fishing. I hate the taste of trout, but salmon and halibut are too good to throw back!

VERY nice tibbs! My favorite, and the one with the most impact visually is the one entitled:

Ice pushed up on the bank of the lake

Thank you kind sir! I think I'm starting to understand all of this photography stuff. It really is a science and art, it's a lot more involved than I thought it would be. Some people (Bret) have a way of making it look easy!

Before my son was born, I had much more time for photography. Was pretty addicted to it for a while, and a have built up a decent stock pile of current equipment, even a dual body, full manual SLR 5 lens rig for the heavy stuff. But in recent years I have been relegated to an Olympus digital. I do have a small collection of very very old camera's.
