12 or 15?

Post by ttocs »

I am still further away from getting back to my stereo install then I would like to be but have had a thought on my mind for a while I am curious what the experts here recommend. Originally I was going to use 10" woofers to fill the bass the ti elite 9 - 5 - 1 active 3 ways did not but after a lot thought I wanted to go up to a little larger woofer, a 12". I sold the 10's and figured I would go with an elite 12" but now after more thought I am considering going big and up to a single 15. IT would be powered by the sub portion of the elite.5 so if we keep the impedence down it should be enough power. But would you go with a 15 instead, and if so which one? Airspace would need to be kept low....

if the amp could handle a load of .75ohm, you can never go wrong with these big boys....

SQ is amazing.... but if space is limited....it maybe nothing for you.......

you will love this sub for sure, but for other ones i would listen and make you're own

conclusions/preferences what you like the most.......

Image dynamics IDMax 15. I've never heard this specific one but there is a lot of talk on diyma that the IDMax was designed as a 15 and then adapted to be 12 and 10, the the 15 is really the best sounding max. I have actually thought about going that route in my next install.
A few of these and a few of those.

those could be fun. I think it would take some work to get an enclosure big enough for them with how small the opening is to the mustangs trunk but I think it could be worth it.

I do an alpine sub but yea it will not be their entry level by any means. The more I look at the idmax the more I like it though, other then the price but I am not going to let that stop my choice now being powered by elites. Also looks like a good match for power if I do a dual 2 ohm since the elite is rates for 1100 at 1 ohm(fans will be running for sure). Pretty sure the box will need to be build in two pieces as part of it will be the spare tire well and the other part what is left behind the two elites standing up behind where the back seat would be. With the box shaped like this I am pretty sure it will not be deep enough and I will need to invert-mount it but I have never been opposed to that. the trunk will be dedicated to the stereo anyway I don't think that big old motor/magnet sticking up from the floor will look too bad.

Really mike? I woulda thought the X would be better than the R's. Ive had all 3 gens on the R's they are phenominal subs, believe me they are power hungry. I think the 2 gen w the grey cone and R logo at the botton of the cone sounded the best, then the 3rd gen w the blk cone and R at the bottom. Was never a big fan of the 1 w a single surround roll w the big center R

ya know its funny as we all know Rockford makes killer subs, but there is something weird in me about hooking a Rockford sub on a pg amp. I think its just because I never saw them both at one shop and the one I worked at that had pg, well RF was our competitions leading line.

I know it would. First system I ever really saw/heard/fell in love with was a Rockford system.

cheep too but at 4 ohms I am not sure I would have enough power. Really I need a DVC bridged down to 1 er 2 ohms to get enough out of the .5 sub side to do a 15 with enough power.

I landed some 15's a couple years back.. I needed only 4 for what I was thinking about doing.. While waiting to complete the vision I landed some first gen 18" strokers.. Anyways the 15's don't require much power or airspace.. If I'm not mistaken they are kicker XPL's.. There was only a small amount that were released from my understanding.. I ended up buying 5 of those 15's.. I bought them from a guy who use to be a rep for kicker.. He had 5 brand new ones left in the original boxes.. I bought all 5.. I bought 5 because if I blew one I'd have a back up.. Since I switched to the 18's these are just sitting.. If you are interested in just 1 I'd be willing to sell it to you for exactly what I paid.. Not to sound crabby but if you don't want it its not for sale..
