RSD 1200.1 protect problem

Post by emiljensen2 »

Hoping someone still surfs this board.
So I recently acquired a Phoenix Gold RSD 1200.1 and some other stuff for dirt cheap. The person said it were working when he pulled it out of his car.

I didn't have a radio at the time.
So we just hooked it up to power + ground through the capacitor with battery disconnected,
hooked it up to the subwoofers (After "refreshing" all the wires),
charged the capacitor (Soundquest 2 farad) and connected the battery,
didn't connect a remote wire since no radio, but when power was connected it booted straight into protect mode.
(I'm sorry if this is still hard to read)

We've tried disconnecting the subwoofer cables, grounding directly to chassis instead of though the capacitor, and then running a remote from my dad's setup to send a remote signal to the amplifier but it still boots/stays in protect mode.

My dad has a colleague that said he would take a look, so far he's downloaded the manual, hooked it up himself outside of a car and ran it at 14.4 (Or my dad said "What the manual recommends") while also sending a remote signal, and it is still in protect mode.

I did buy and hook up a RSD 500.4 and it works fine.

Do you guys have any tips or ideas as to what to look for?
Thanks for your help in advance.

its worth opening up, but with d class amps, usually when something blows, it takes multiple sections with it.

good luck!
