I have never done anything like that. The furthest I have gone is to draw out my components to see what wiring I'm going to need. Besides that the layout of my system has always been in my head. Maybe that's why they look like they do!

to be honest ive always done it from my head as well... but i thought it would be nice a) so i can calculate lengths of cable...b) so i can relay my ideas back to my helping hand friend! c) just for a point of reference!

I was thinking of using visio... but didnt know if there was some little 3rd party freeware app that people have used to success.

I use OmniGraffle on OS X.

You can see some of the basic diagrams I made here. Scroll past the equipment photos.

There's not measuring of lengths or anything going on, just a basic diagram.

I try to lay out all the gear I plan to use with the space I'm putting it......ie......... Open the trunk and set the amps, eq's, subs and misc goodies into a basic possition on where I want to install them. Then take a mental picture and start building........
Those tender little burgers with them little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in ya mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one.. just makes me want to burn this muthafuka down.... Come on, Pookie, let's burn this muthafuka down!!!

welcome back james.

to estimate wire lengths better I just take a piece of string and roughly run it along the same route, then measure it. I always add a little to be safe but it is an easy way to get a good measurement.
