I started working on FAS #63 and wanted to replace all the capacitors. While taking the boards out i discoverd an issue with the MS2125 side of it. It looks like that C116 is missing or blown away    Further i discovered that one of the big capacitors is loose , but that´s not a big problem as i´m going to replace them anyways. Any clue why C116 could be blown???

I am guessing it was physically damaged, not necessarily electrically damaged.

Since MS amps are not really put together all that well (any amp with loose wires in it is asking for problems), people tend to probe around in them with screwdrivers, pliers, or worse. Often they break something which was never an issue in the first place.

no idea why that blew or what it does...

but I worked on an Alpine MRV-1507 that had a small cap in the preamp section that blew it's can off just like that one. cellulose everywhere. amazingly enough no damage to the board... :hmm:
This was not physically damaged, other small caps around it were ready to go as well (tops bulging out).
A few of the preamp ICs were burned up, and some diodes were blown. Rebuilt the preamp section and all was well.

IIRC when one of the rail fuses opens up it throws a bunch of extra voltage across that cap and KABOOM!

Auch... What is the C116??

Can this amp be played/used with the C116 damaged?? Previous owner of this amp claims to have been using it untill I bought it....

Don't you just hate it when you get cap guts all over your board like that?

I just had one side of the 2125 in my #16 FAS go down this weekend past. Nil LED's on the bottom half..... :(

I´m glad i didn´t hook #63 up for tests after i received it from Pedi. Could have done even more damage.

BTW: The sink from #63 will get a new layer of paint to make him shine like day one again!

@Hosehead: Good luck with getting yours repaired!
