M44 And Route 66 (M44,M25)

Hi,

I just recently picked up a couple of amps for a project I am working on.

The first is the old school Route 66 based off the M44 and M25 under the same heat sink.

The second is an M44.

They seem to work ok. But I wanted to know if you guys think PG would let me send them in for a checkup and tuneup so I know they are performing as they should be. And what you guys think that is going to cost. So far i have just over 500 bucks into both amps.

Oh and I also wanted to ask about getting the R-66's front metal cover repainted with original white and original lettering.

Welcome to the phorum dood.......

M's are my thang so I can help alittle.....

You'll have to find a cover that is clean enough to be scanned and then a decal set can be made...... Just strip and repaint the cover and bottom white........ Replacing the terminals isn't a big deal either..... White is fairly common........

Where are ya located???? There are a couple people around here that do cap changes.... But it kinda depends where ya live......

At this point, I'd say both amps need a cap change......They are almost old enough to buy porn..... As I recall, the 66 came out in 1993...........

As fuzzy said, there a few members here that could help out in doing the caps as they do need to be changed
Doc may be able to have a good look inside the amps to make sure all is ok, bogart could help out too

pg is no longer repairing amps, and all metal is wrapped up in fla somewhere...
so your option at this point is as stated above... i suggest doc! AS, he is working on two 44's and a rte66 for me...

he is great, and very reasonably priced, very reliable and well rounded kinda guy!... oh! And quick turnaround as well, when situation/time allows...

If you check around you also might find someone (me silly) that do powder coating. It just so happens that i am working on decals for the rte 66 + Outlaw as i have two rte 66's and an outlaw in restoration(S). Doc is doing the electrical, and i will be doing the powder coating and art work

unfortunately it is not OEM OEM - i can look into tracing OEM artwork... BUT right now this is what i have for the outlaw (see attached)... (and prolly wouldnt be jack to simply modify it into a rte 66, as i will have to anyways for the two i am working on personally) First i will get a sample printed by local shop and see how it looks/comes out...
See sample of the outlaw artwork attached- you will have to download etc etc etc and then open... It is red/black b/c those are the colors the customer wants it powder coated to match his car. Should be nice... I will be using a durable wet black, and a transparent (candy) red w/ black lettering as you see in the pdf.....but not oem font's and no other artwork... at least not at this point... You will want to zoom in to see detail... it is vector so you can come right in and see up close pretty good.
BUT right now i have two jobs that need my attention first (itchy, and finish off weng's), and as i work full time (tues - fri) it does take some time for me to get to things done at times.

The lettering, is that painted or is it a sticker.

the intention(s) is to have vinyl sticker printed/made.... shoot the candy red powder coat, place sticker accordingly on cover, and then shoot clear coat over on top... kinda like seal it in.... allot of people in the custom ghosting/masking powder coating do just that and works like a charm. Much easier than going through the headache of silk-screening for one'sies/two'sies jobs.

Print the decal, and clear coat it in/on/over.

believe it or not, the decals also hold up just fine in the oven- i would nat have thought so, but they do....

now to take it a step further it could be powder'ed on in fact- BUT THATS A REAL BIG EFFORT...
you would have to shoot a black base, lay decal down as a mask, shoot the candy red, and then remove decal after curing the red. What you have left is the black showing up as (showing off) the artwork that you just masked with the decal. Then finally finish it off with a top clear and you now have the artwork (all the same black base coat color) as the artwork...BUT it is much more work in fact, and think the decal way and sealing in the decal is way to go with these things.

this process ends up being like 4 coats of powder (black, chrome, candy red, and clear) and it is a bit much... lots of powder for one cover... maybe on valve covers it would be more appropriate, but not with the covers of the amps and stuff...NOT that the other way saves much, but it does eliminate the one coat, and you dont have to deal with cleaning of the masked areas of where the decal was for the clear to stick properly...

does that make sense??

Got home from shop around 1030pm 2 hours early (ran out of fuel), so i worked a lil bit on the artwork for these outlaws and stuff.

yeah or nay (on the newly attached)????

only problem with this workup, is that the outlaw guy and where to place/or how to...
So maybe the resolve is to split up the PG- BUT I dont care for that- it's not not consistent, nor balanced for my tastes... i will prolly end up just leaving blank- WITH OUTLAW GUY in center-

just showing off i guess.

Hoping to get some decals made up soon to run some samples and start incorporating artwork possibilities in the restorations... we'll see i guess.

I really need to be able to include artwork with these powder jobs.
Not jacking thread...BUT when chance at work tomorrow I will try to work up some Rte 66 artwork for you/us... and see what I come up with- it sucks b/c i only have AI9 at work whereas at home here i have CS3- but we'll see.....

I still have some time before I am ready to install these guys.

I like the original graphics of the R66. But I might be willing to have them completely worked over with my own design. hmmmmm?

The MB Quarts are still being adjusted for the areas within the vehicle they will be mounted. One thing you have to give mercedes credit for. They do a very good job sound proofing the car. So what ever I add is just going to better that.

Oh, also which caps need to be replaced? Can we order these in match sets?

I inspected some of the caps and they seem to look newish. No bulging or burn holes.

if you can scan the cover of the 25 and 44
i can/have a go at tracing the artwork for you if you would like and make it vector... I need to anyways for my (2) 44's, but i was going to go/work off a rte 66 but that wont fit on my scanner- doh!

Eric has my 44 right now, so i cant make that scan until that returns...
if you have the two amps and are able to scan as hi of res of scan as you can that would be good, and i might be able to knock it out in next day or so for you while i am at work....! But wait, shoot, i only have AI9 here at work- I have CS3 at home... that would be better/easier... i dunno. scan first then we can see wassup
