Mustang trunk opening

Post by GX3 »

Any one out there with a mustang (mid 90s body) that can tell me the largest box size that will fit through the opening. I need to build a box (ported) for a Pioneer TS-W3002. The guy that wants it wont let me take the car for the day :idiot: and I don't trust the size he gave me. He told me to "just build a box with a port in it" I tried to tell to him there is a bit more to it then that. I thing the a wall would understand better.

BTW It's a convertible :(

Is the Stang a 94-95. The trunk should be close to my 2000 GT. Those trunks are small in the opening and do not fit much. I bought a 2 CF box with a slot port hoping to fit it throught the trunk door and it would not.
Dimensions were 14.5"L 29.75"W 14.5"H

I had to pull the back seat off and cut some metal just to get it to fit. I think if the width or height was like 12" it would have fit no problems.

I tried to talk him into letting me use the spare tire well for the enclosure and mount the sub with the motor inverted. But no

I have a 94 gt, built a few boxes for them and anthing bigger then a tall 12" sub box will take a shoe horn to get in. I thought the last box I build was 13, maybe 14 inches tall and it as close enought that we had to remove the rubber gasket that goes around it and then it still rubbed on both sides, thankfully it was just carpeted....

now the hood opens NICE and wide for that 5.0.....
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

I'm in the process of glassing a box into the passenger side of my 94.

15" is from the top seal to the bottom seal. You'll probly have to remove the metal latch to get a box in.......

Pioneer TS-W3002
Recommended 1.2 C.F. with 3" diameter round port 3.5" long
Max 1.6 C.F with 3" diameter round port 2.5" long

As long as your short side dimensions don't go over 12" you should be fine with the recommended volume.

I ran a few different boxes in my '01 saleen 'vert.
1st - sealed box for two 10w3s
2nd - sealed box for 12w6v2
3rd - ported box for 12x6v2. to get this box in I had to remove the vinyl cover inside the boot (where top folds) remove my trunk latch and carefully guide in in from both sides, starting from the rear. this box was built to spec from the jl website. the sub fired toward the back seat and there was about 1/2" between the back of the box and the trunk lid.

Not the latch itself on the lid but what it latches onto on the car. Should be 3-4 8mm bolts IIRC...... :hmm:

w36" h14" top depth 7" and 13" bottom depth. you have to put it in at an angle with the slope towards the seats. you put one side in first through the larger part and then slide it to the side and with a push it drops in. i dont think if it was 1/4" larger it would fit. i just got lucky with the dimensions when i designed it. BTW it tucks up all the way under the rear deck and you can still get to the spare.

Those convertible Mustangs are some of the most notorious for being a pain in the ass when it comes to boxes fitting through the trunk opening. If you don't have a tested box design to work from I would recommend you refuse to build it until he brings you the car.

just build the box and if it's to big when he brings the car just use a blow torch and a big hammer they work well for all type's of custom work.

Another option might be to remove the rear seat and go in that way....... :hmm:
