guy i have just got my audison lrx6.9 amp the amp @ 2ohm will put out 470 watt rms the jl i know sounds great and i might use a ported box( i love sealed but we will see) or i have a chance to buy 2 10" mtx black gold subs
the only thing i don't know is these subs are older but what will sound louder/cleaner i like rap dance thing with a little bass but Im not a bass head
the car is a 2003 toyota corolla 4 door with 6.5 boston pro mid/tweeter clarion vrx585 tv deck im not sure if i want to use the rear speaker yet and i own the 1/2 din clarion center channel speaker that i will wire so i can turn it on and off.
what do you think would be clean and loud?
if i go the mtx what are the specs? seal or ported box size i know the rms on these subs are about 200 watts each

so if money is not going to stop you what would you do?

The JL hands down! The w6v2's are phenominal drivers! The MTX's have a nice nostalgia feel about them, but they won't compare. If I remember correctly, the Black Gold line was designed for small sealed enclosures, but that was enclosure sizes in the mid 90's :? One thing to keep in mind about older drivers is that their spiders can weaken over time. I've seen NIB old school drivers with saggy spiders :( Just something to keep in mind.

+1 to the JL but then I'm anal about the quality side of things. Sure, the two MTX's will go louder than one JL, but the JL will sound better.

If you must have two subs, go the single JL for now andadd a second when you can afford it.

im not sure if i would go with mtx because i have a thunder 8000 series 15 and it takes a lot of power just to get it moving. and then when it gets going the output is not that great considering how much it weighs. even though im not a big jl fan i would say go with the jl it would take less power to get it going. and would most likely blend better with the boston's also at lower volume's it would sound smoother.

the w6v2 is a great sounding sub. I run a 12" off a Ti.600.2
but am considering swapping for two 10"rsdc off a Ti1000.1. On the other hand, I could add another 12w6. I am a bass head of sorts and desire more output than the single 12 offers, but I highly recommend the w6

ok here what im going to do I will used the jl.. but now i have to think sealed or ported.
Im running it right now in the wifes car off a jl 500/1 so its clean loud just hate the box its in
I have never been a fan of ported IMO as i have not heard many subs that were in the right ported box
the car is small the audison amp is very small for what it does. I have to think go active or rear fill. I think i might go rear fill and center channel speaker for the 5.1 tv set up
things to think about.... 8)

i ran sealed boxes only for more than 15 years. the 12w6v2 was the first sub i ran ported in a personal setup and i must say that it sounds great. this sub and box opened my interest for bass reflex enclosures, horns, t lines, mass loaded t-lines, etc... i doubt you will be dissapointed either way. Dude, try it ported and tell me if im wrong.

W6v2's sound fantastic in a properly tuned vented enclosure. I've done dozens of them and have never been disapointed. And I'm an SQ guy 8)

It's off topic but I got a clarion VRX585 USB given to me and it didn't have a plug I modified another one I have to fit but I need a good picture of the factory plug so I can hook the wires up correctly
