How would my tweeter sound here?

Post by Phoenixcolt »

How do you think my tweeters would sound placed here?

It would rise the soundstage above my knee so my leg wouldn't get in the way like the other car but...Has anyone else ever tried this?

My tweeter mounting will be in the stock dash locations or as shown.

Will it sound better on the dash or right above the mid?

Give it a test by using some double sided tape to that location. Give it a listen for a couple of days. Play with other locations to pinpoint what sounds best to you. In theory it looks like a good spot.

WERD! I've been "testing" a location with two-sided tape and back strapping for a couple months now.

I used that same location in my Corrado, the stage height was good but the integrity of it along with the focus of the image was shot.

Things were all over the place acoustically but it was at the right level........ :?

I hoped someone tried it and i should have known It would have been Errin :) .

So would time alignment help the probs you had with it?

Would they be better in the dash locations in your opinion?

why not in the area right behind the woofers location? Looks to be enough room and on the same plane.

thats my battle right now....well actually the other way around.

I have near perfect center defined image, deep and wide stage, transparent but the height as expect was around the chest. I bumped the xover piont up to 3.15khz which brought the hieght up to the shoulder....hopefully a few more things can maybe get it up to ear level.

So right on that slant above and a little behind the woofer?

That could be good too...it would not shoot the tweet at my face but at my ear or a little to the left of my ear.

Ok I can picture it, so if I am looking straight at the woofer with the door open, u mean to the left or right of the woofer on the same plane?

Have not sealed in the mids yet because I am still having a bitch of a time figuring out how I am going to do it but I believe I am going to build the mid out a bit so I don't have to cut the water barrier in the door, the mids are sunk in as it is so they would look alright built out and inch or inch and a half.

Heres where I am testing the tweets right now : ):

How do you suppose it would sound?

Would I surface mount it or flush it into the center of the grill?

it should sound exactly the same. you could always tape it there and check.

i think the flush mount would work if you pop out the center of the grill. give it a try

Do you think they would sound good just mounted in the kicks and the mids in the stock door location? Or do you mean the custom kicks that I do not have :)?

At least this way I wouldn't have to cut the car door up at all. And if I were to mount it like a coax, I would just use the tweet itself right? Dismantled down to the open backed tweeter? Or only dismantled down to the silver ring so the spring was still behind it and I could angle it a little?

So in your opinions, would the tweeter sound better down there like I have pictured or would it sound better in the stock dash locations?

I think speakers usually sounds best when they are mounted in equal path lengths. So since tweeters are easer picked up by ears, its probably best to mount them in the kicks
If it was up to me, I would do kicks, but If you can't (or in some cases near impossible) you could mount them further away from you in the kicks.

As most others expressed so far, use double sided tape and try different locations. :D

That is true, I get what you mean about equal paths but keep in mind I will also be able to time align the tweets and mids individually as I am running it active.

My clarion 955mc headunit like some others, namely the pioneer 880, allows you to configure what they call a 3-way setup:Highs, Mids, and Sub(s). This way you get to equalize, crossover, and time align everything on it's own...exciting feature allowing you to do a lot with placement if you wanted.

Oh, I didn't know that...it may sound like ass for your passengers though
I would still mount it on the kickpanles

If you plan to mount the tweet in coax fashion why not just cut the leads to the tweet on you coax and wire the XO inline?
