Can anyone tell me if the PHOENIX GOLD r5.0comp 5.25 speakers are any good?

I wouldnt really waste money on the octane r's. I would take a look at the octane zrs for a slight increase in price. Much smoohter sounding set. Even better though would be the rsds, which are relatively cheap aswell.

yeah,octane-r's highs hurts the ears and its very forward sounding too.
Replaced that with rsd , and these comp is so much better.Sounds very open and highs are so much more smooth and musical...
plus looks gorgeous mounted on the door....

Though i noticed the output sound level is a little lower compared to the r at same vol , but that's quickly rectified by increasing the volume. :)

that's just because your passive crossover eats up efficiency. a worthwhile sacrifice!

Look into the RSD comps, PG's new line. You can read reviews of them here in the review section of this forum.
