M25/m50 noise Please help!

Post by lilredsammy »

I have an M25 and M50 that have lots of noise with no input. It sounds like a whisper. On both it seems to be coming from the gain control. When the gain is down the noise almost disappears. The reason I decided to get these amps were because of all the posts I've read about the excellent SQ. I had both amps rebuilt by Zed Audio. When I questioned him about the noise he told me these amps were known to be noisy. Is this the case?

I have an M50 and it makes no noise unless I put my ear against the tweeter.
Do you get noise with no RCA connected to the amp?

I own and use an M25 Series II and an M44. Both amps are original and unmodified, and I can assure you that neither amp is "noisy". In fact, even though I am not a technically inclined person, I would consider them to be extremely quiet and dependable.

Having said that, I did buy an M50 from a very reputable EBay seller in Scottsdale, AZ a couple of years ago. That M50 has some obvious static in the left channel. After he refunded my purchase and I returned the amp, his technician discovered there was a bad resistor or something causing the static. So, it needed a repair.

Here is the key problem...

Some people have had a lot of problems with Zed, and I know of one person who had several amplifiers actually physically damaged due to Zed involvement.
