my XS2500 Project

Post by johnzenobia »

bought off ebay as is not working. was definitely beat hard replaced 8 caps in the power supply and raised the uf to 3300 at 50 volts, repaired broken trace under the on large cap and replaced all the mosfet outputs. All that's left to do is get it warmed up on the bench and check the bias voltage. Painted and Clear coated the heatsink and removed the Emblem's and also painted and cleared over. The only thing missing is one of the caps for the button 24db. Can hardly wait to get installed in the truck!

Nice work! I have some spare parts for XS amplifiers if you ever need anything. I have an XS2500 and XS4600 to steal parts from. I can send you a cap for the crossover button or send you the whole switch if you'd like.

I threw a cap for the crossover switch in an envelope and sent it out this morning. You should have it in a couple of days.

Up and running strong. Installed behind the rear seat back of my f150. Also running an audio control line driver for the 2500. These amplifiers were so worth the time and money spent to get running. Sound quality of these amps are incredible. Thanks everyone for the great information on fixing these.

You may want to consider moving the AudioControl line driver up to the front of the vehicle, near the head unit. It is not doing anything being mounted in the back.

It will function in the back, but it is not accomplishing what you really want it too.

The goal of a line driver is to reduce "hiss" or other background noise from the system, by increasing the signal-to-noise ratio on the critical (and often long) RCA cable run from the front of the vehicle to the rear. If you bump up the voltage of the RCA signal as close as possible to the head unit, you introduce the least amount of noise. If you instead put the line driver in the rear, it will just amplify the noise the RCA cable as already picked up, on top of the music signal.

Question: Whats with the RCA jumpers on your 4ch? I run an xs4600 for 2 subs. There's a way to use it, to power all 4 channels, from a pair of RCAs.. if what you're doing is for that reason, to run 4 channels of 1 set of RCAs, read the manual, you'll find the way to do so. I forget off hand, but it's simple, just a matter of having one of the switches set right. Just saying...
