Opinions on DC audio subs?

Post by Jacampb2 »

Hey guys, I found a decent Craiglist deal for a DC audio 18" L3 sub. I have not bought any drivers in a long time, but I have been keeping my eye out for a decent deal on some 18"s. I'm kind of thinking of putting one or two in my BMW 535 wagon and I am wondering if these are decent. It looks like I can still get a second brand new and they wouldn't break the bank.

Give me your thoughts. I will run it sealed if I go with this. I am thinking I will probably buy this used one regardless unless you guys tell me its garbage-- I wouldn't mind having a 18 in the shop for a shop sub.

Thanks,
Jason

Jason,

This may seem out of left field, but I have two 15" Electro Voice EVM 15b Series 1 woofers that I'm looking to get rid of cheaply. They're not subwoofers, but they produce an incredible amount of low end ~45hz or so. I have no use for them and I'd hate to see them go to waste. You can find specs here: http://www.electrovoice.com/downloadfile.php?i=971118 I'm also local to you. If you're looking for shop woofers, these are great. The dust cones are pushed in, it it doesn't affect the sound. I can send pics if you'd like.

Hey, I remember we met when I still lived in Midland. Thanks for the offer, but I'm not in need of anything for the shop, but just thought the 18 would serve well there until I decided what I am going to do with my new car. I've been wanting to get some 18s for a long time now. I had a pair of 18" strokers back in the late 90's. Have always wished I hadn't sold them. Right now in the electronics shop I have my old box from my Jetta with the three Rsdc 12's in it and I use it as the shop sub. I want to pack up the Rsdc's eventually and one 18 in a sealed box will take up less room than the 3 Rsdcs in the ported enclosure.

Someone will want those EV woofers. I keep seeing an ad on CL for a guy in Saginaw that buys and recones old speakers. He might be able to find a market for them if you have to move them.

Thanks,
Jason

I didn't figure you'd want them, but figured I'd check. Yes, it was a long time ago we met and I picked up the engraved sign. Now I work at the same place you do. I might throw those woofers on the bay, but I really don't want to ship them.
