Advice on SX1200.5, RX500.1, and RX400.4

Post by Pheadrus »

After getting a MS-2125 that needed repair, I've been learning about PG amps. I was offered a brand new SX1200.5 for $185. All I know about it is that Mr. Mantz(Zed Audio) designed it for PG.
The seller also has a RX500.1 and RX400.4 modified by Mr. Mantz for $250 for both.
How do these amps rate among other PG lines and for the price are they worth buying?
I know the RX line was entry level. I'm looking for input on the quality versus the price. I'm on a tight budget so higher end PG stuff isn't an option.
Thanks.

I think that for under $200 your getting 1200 watts of PG power... Granted it's not old PG power but it's PG power nonetheless. My recommendation is that you should buy the SX1200.5 for a single footprint and for the sake of simplicity. Comparing amp lines is really hard to do especially with OS PG since there has been so much change over the years so maybe you should pull the trigger on it and report back to us haha. Someone's gotta bite the apple first and like I said you aren't going to find that kind of flexible power for under $200.

Thanks Chester. The SX seemed like a good deal, but I didn't know how newer amps stacked up against the old school stuff I'm use to running. I'm also waiting to hear what mods Mr. Mantz did to the 2 RX's.

as he said its a tough call comparing amps and really comes down to a personal preference. I am a little new to the MS world myself and have to admit I have grown fond of them but I think mainly because not everyone has them anymore but everyone still recognizes them for what they are, great amps.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.
