RSdc 10's or 12's

Post by jbob0124 »

I currently have a pair of new RSdc 124's but was debating looking for a set of the 10's as they have a much smaller enclosure size. Do you think there's a big difference in dropping down from the 12 to the 10? Looking at the specs, the wattage is the same and the frequency isn't much different.

I have a RsdC 124 in my car and it is my favorite sounding sub. I have it in a sealed enclosure, 1.3 ft^3 and it blends extremely well with my components. I am sending it 600 Watts. I have also had two RsdC 10’s in a sealed enclosure (0.4 ft^3 each) and wasn’t able to get them to play as low as the single 12. I don’t think they had enough volume to get low enough or maybe I needed to send them more power (I was sending them 500 Watts each), but I could never get them to sound right. They definitely had great sound and impact reproducing kick drums, but again, I think enclosure size was limiting them. If you have the room, go with the 12’s. I have never heard either one ported, so take my experience with a grain of salt.

Space is limited unfortunately which is part of the reason of was thinking of downsizing. The box will be sealed and if I remember correctly, there is a big difference in box size from the 10 to 12. Not crazy about the idea of using 1 twelve, but if the two 10’s don’t perform as nicely, then maybe I should rethink that.

Are you worried about output? A single 12" RSdc should be able to hang in there pretty well with great SQ to boot. I put my 12 in a single 1 cubic ft sealed box and strapped it to a X600.1 and it was more than I could handle especially in a hatchback vehicle. What kind of car is it going in to?

It’s going in a ‘16 Ford Edge. Space is limited unless I do custom panels on the sides (wanting a stealthy install) which is what made me think of dropping to the tens. I’ve always been a fan of pairs rather then singles. Not too worried about the output, I know either choice should be adequate for sq.

Either way is a winner but I certainly like stealthy. Are 12" fiberglass enclosures not an option with that vehicle? I got exactly a 1 cubic ft out of my Acura wagon and based on the pics of your vehicle I would say you could get at least that much out of each rear corner. If I had to guess I would say it would yield about 1 -1.25 ft3 per side.

I could probably fit the 12’s in the rear side panels, but I would either have to cut the panels to fit them or buy new ones to modify. I think the 10’s could squeeze in the wheel well with the amp.
