I'm not sure how many of you remember me from the days of old, but I'm about to be back! Due to some vehicle shuffling and by the good graces of the wife it looks like I'm about to need a system for a daily driver! The vehicle is still up in the air, but I have a pretty good idea of what I want for a system consisting of the following:

H/U: Either stick with the factory unit and use an external sound processor, or a nicer Pioneer double din unit.
Amp: I'm thinking of either a 5 channel amp, or a mono amp and a small amp for the front stage. I would love to stick with PG but am open to suggestions.
Sub: PG RSDC 12". This is the only piece of the puzzle that I still own after all of these years. I love the sound of this sub!
Front Stage: ??? A nicer 6.5 comp set would be ideal. My last front stage was an active set up and it was just too much work.
Rear: ??? Rear fill, whatever.

So, I'm after suggestions for that set up. I'm after a 100% SQ set up with a bit of punch. At this point in my life I'm 40+ years old and don't need to blow the doors off of anything. Just a nice clean sound for the drive to work and back. Budget is also still up in the air. I would love a nice sounding set up, and if I have to pay a bit more for it I think I can make that happen. Nothing too out of this world, but I'm not shopping at Walmart either. I would also love to stick with PG if their quality has held up over the years!

I'm interested to see how much the industry has changed after all of these years. It feels like it's been 10+ years since I have had a system! Show me something new!

*Full disclosure, I'm also cross posting this over on diymobileaudio for a bit more traffic, but I value your guys' opinions more!!

Depending with how integrated your factory stereo is in your vehicle, an external processor may be the way to go. If it’s not that integrated, then you could go with an aftermarket option. There’s lots of great options out there and the folks at diymobileaudio can help you with recommendations. It’s been very quiet on the phorum as of late, so you may not get a lot of responses here.

I wouldn’t rule out an active setup. Processing power has come down in pricing and having the flexibility to tune each driver is almost a must in the car audio field. There are too many variables in a vehicle for a factory crossover to be effective in my opinion. I prefer to run raw drivers as there are SO many options out there for reasonable prices and using a processor, I can fine tune things to my liking by changing a setting. It’s easy to directly compare your changes by moving back and forth between settings in a processor.

As far as amplifiers go, PG still makes good stuff. If you’re after a nice powerful 5 channel amp, the Ti21600.5 packs quite a lot of power in a small footprint. I run a Ti21000.4 for subwoofer duty and these amps perform well. I haven’t checked out the newest PG amplifiers, but I’m sure they perform well too.

Welcome back Tibbs.

Look into Hybrid Audio for mids/highs. They're costly but one of the best on the market today.
Personally I'm looking into Image Dynamics XS comps for part of my front end (3way active).

Depending on the vehicle, Dwnrodeo is right. I drive a 2012 Ford Raptor now and I plan on keeping the factory HU for a few reasons.
1) Keep it looking Factory
2) The communications of todays vehicles go through the radio, so it's also cost effective to keep the factory HU. The cost of the dash kit, adapters and the likes add up quick.
3) This truck is being slated to be a collectors Item in 10 years so I want to retain it as 100% as I can within reason.
4) Cost, after adapters, kits..... It'll cost as much in that as the new HU would.

PAC and Metra make plug in T-harnesses now to make things much easier and is a huge cost savings. (See 2 and 4 above)

I'll be going from the T-harness into my Mosconi 6to8v8 DSP for my needs.

Casey, I think I remember you from the old days.... and DAMN you're old!!!! :P :P :P

If I were you, I'd seriously look into a PG Elite.5 while there are still a few around. Plenty of clean SQ power and all under one heatsink.

I like the look of that amp! Looks to be about right for a daily driver, and it isn't flashy. Nice, I'll keep an eye open! Thanks Mando!

As an old guy myself (48) I was going for loud sq myself. I went with 2 elite .5's. Lots of power and available channels. They sound great and are reliable. You should be able to find one on this phorum.
