What do you guys thing about something like this for the FJ? What really attracts me to something like this is the nav stuff and being able to get the info I need on the road. The idea is kinda that same as something like this, but without taking up the whole passenger side of the dash. What do you guys think about this kinda stuff? Anyone ever play with a carputer before? Benefits or drawbacks? What do you guys think??

I personally feel any and all video screens, with the exception of a navigation system, should be illegal within the driver's viewing angle. A cell phone is beyond dangerous let alone a video screen with a PC? Foolishness. Just asking for trouble. When you're driving, you should be driving and nothing else.
The only stupid question is the one not asked .......

To be honest I couldn't agree more. Back in the day when Pioneer first started coming out with in dash dvd players I was totally against it. Even when they started to require that the parking brake was on to view a dvd people were hacking their way around it and I still didn't agree with it. I for one see no reason to be watching a movie going down the road. Honestly, most people already have a hard enough time driving without any distractions, why give them more??!! I would not be setting a system like this up for watching movies, it would be for the navigation tools and also it would be nice to have the interweb at my fingertips when I am out of town. I always like knowing where the good places to eat are!HoseHead wrote:I personally feel any and all video screens, with the exception of a navigation system, should be illegal within the driver's viewing angle. Talk to Steve Meade, he just did a major install with one. Might be a good resource.

Thanks man! I'm foing to have to do some heavy research before I dive into this. It looks like there are a lot of different options out there for different applications. I guess I need to narrow down exactly what I want this to do and start looking for units that specialize in that. Thanks for all of the great links guys, I'll be doing lots of reading on this!!denim wrote:Talk to Steve Meade, he just did a major install with one. Might be a good resource.
