line driver noob

Post by harobkr90 »

i've been trying to get my line driver hooked up today, the dash is still torn apart and wire everywhere.
so i hooked my tld22 up using the power and ground that is also used for the head unit.
it didn't make a difference.

i'm a little confused with the gain setting on the line driver.
are they sensitivity or boost?
do i turn them up to increase voltage?

i've never installed one before and i'm a little lost.

Well, I would start by reading the manual for your specific line driver here. After that if your still having problems let us know. I know when I set up mine I didn't think it was working either, until I turned it up. Turning it up does increase the voltage. Are you checking the voltage while turning it up?

I can turn it up a hair, literally millimeters and I can immediately hear the increase.

Reading your description, did you connect a remote wire to the unit?

i got a line driver jus haven't put that in yet... is it true that it might hurt some amps because there weren't suppose to take that much voltage or something?

yeah, i have the remote wired in, green light and everything.

but for the love of god, i cannot get a reading from any rca i've tried to get a voltage reading from. turned up the gains in the tld and nothing.
i can't even get a reading from any of the three sets of outputs my headunit has. using a 60hz test tone. all set to flat.

is ur dmm set in dc voltage, or ac voltage?- onmine, when i set it 2-3 weeks ago, i think i had to put it ac voltage to get the readings-espically at the amps, with speakers disconnected ofcourse-

ok, i think i might have found my problem, it's my headunit or, i must have a factory amp hiding somewhere.
my headunit can be turned up to 40, but by the time i get to 15, it's way too loud.

do i just disconnect the blue wire in the harness or will that cut off the speakers since theyre amplified.

does anyone know if the ford "premium sound" can be bypassed without rewiring your speakers?

Yeah, it can be bypassed, I think you can buy a wiring kit to do it.

I usually just run new wires though...

ok, when testing with 60hz, everything zeroed, i get a significantly lower voltage than what i would get with my eq played with.

which reading should i use.
the one with it zeroed and then change the eq,
or do my tests with the eq how i will use it everyday?

You should always set your line voltage and gain with the eq centered. Then when you set your eq, lower it from the center line, never boost frequencies, that way you should never clip your signal.

Happy Holidays!
sorry, but i'm not familiar with the outdoor ice rink, i don't normally head towards va that often, more towards baltimore.
is that the bridge where it has what looks like a large coin on one of the pillars?
