new ti65cs quick review

Post by todd217 »

i tested these in the house using a cabinet from a old 6" bookshelf speakers about 1/3^ft. the power came from an onkyo ht receiver running stereo xover set at 80hz.
Likes: great midrange detail and the tweeter was very smooth
Dislikes: crossover nothing fancy at all almost generic. for a $200+ flagship set i would expect more. also be careful when pulling the cover off the crossover. i broke one of the tabs off trying to get the top off.

They are not much to look at, stamped steel basket, plain non vented magnet.
crossovers have a 0 and a +3 setting for the tweeters no -3
I found the tweeters to be harsh as hell at first, they are breaking in now and sound better every day.
Mid bass is great if they get a little air. I had mine in the tiny stock door enclosure for a couple of days and they came alive when I removed them and let them use the whole door as a enclosure.

I didnt like them at first, now that I have around 20 hours on them they are starting to sound good.
Over all I am happy with them.

$200 for the TI comp set ...not the Elite comp set, which retails for about $450 per Morgans MSRP post a few months back.

I built some door panels for my lil beater car(89 civic hatch). 2 pairs ti6cs and 2-12" eminence midbass, powered from a single mtx 4200x at the moment. I am thoroughly impressed with the component sets, not so much with the eminator series eminence(Chinese made vs USA made alpha series). I have noticed new material in the same music I have been listening to for months. Reminds me a lot of mb quart premium comps I had several years ago, but are much cheaper. I have to agree about the crossovers tho. They do seem kinda cheap, and I also broke one of the tabs when removing the top cover. But imo, definitely one of the best component sets in its price range.

Update, now have 3-ti 6" comp sets and 1pr ti 5.25 powered from a xs4300, and changed the eminators to the alpha series 12" powered by a xs 4600. SUPER loud and clear as a bell. I am really impressed with the way these sound to be a $200 comp set. Only complaint would be the crossovers do seem a lil cheapo. Actually vibrated one of the chokes off the board on 1 crossover. To be expected with the amount of vibration 2-18" produce in a small hatchback. Overall very happy.

There's a few pairs of these going for a bill apeice on ebay, I'm selling my olde Alpine 3339 parts to try & get them. I'd love to get the older Ti5 or 6 as I have the tweets & xover but never find 'em when I have sum xtra cash or whatever, 99 bucks ain't bad for the set tho.

About two months ago there was a run of about three or four sets that popped up on ebay over a three week period that all brought around $75. I was in at $50 but didn't go higher because it wasn't something I needed.

Just scored 2 sets. I'm wanting to use my original Ti xover with them, any thoughts?

there would probably be no better way to completely ruin a good set of speakers by swapping cross overs. Cross overs are not all the same and are designed to play with a specific set of speakers that they are matched too. The cross overs points and the slopes are all more then likely going to be completely different. There is a slim chance that you have happened to come across the perfect match between the speakers and the amp but more then likely that will not be the case. You can always swap them back if they are as bad as I would expect but I am not even sure I would bother to try them out.
