Deleted the attached songs....

So where's this sub going? If Errin/Steve still aren't interested, Casey needs to pay Brian to ship it to him now.

Well boys, I received the sub yesterday and today I installed it in the FJ. Because I have a shallow mount sub in a very shallow box, I didn't want to try and make a spacer and throw it in the existing sealed box, so I dug out the old ABC box. I love this box! I kinda felt like I was raising the dead getting this ready today. I had long since stolen all of the hardware off of it to use on other projects so basically it was just a big hung of glued and screwed wood sitting in my parents' basement. I went and bought some T-nuts and bolts, along with something to make some make shift binding posts. I forgot how heave this damn box is, IIRC it weighs in at around 80 lbs or so, just for the box!! I had to have my brother help me get it out of the basement and into the FJ. Good times.

Anywho, I got it all installed a little while ago and have been listening to it a little. When I got it Fowler had left it wired for 8 ohms, so I decided to try it like that at first. I remember the last time I used this box it was with a 12" RE SE wired at 4 ohms and it sounded damn good and loud so I thought I would just leave this at 8 ohms and see what happens. DAMN!! This sub sounds pretty damn respectable for a 300 watt RMS "entry" sub! Very clear sounding, yet drops low and plays loud. I remember the RE SE being a little louder and a little lower in the ABC box, but that was a different sub, in a different vehicle, at a different ohm setting. For only running at 8 ohms I am damn impressed. Maybe for shiggles I'll take it back out and wire it up to 2 ohms later on and see what kind of damage I can do to the FJ.

I'm running it bridged off of the back channels of the Xenon 200.4 same as the Exile, but the Dcon is blowing away the Exile. Granted it's a totally different set up but damn, what a difference!! The wife is not going to like this at all. She hated when I had this box in the 4Runner years ago, I wonder what she's gonna say this time.

So, initial impressions are this is a damn nice sub for an "entry" level. It makes me want to try out an Icon pretty bad!! I might have to redo the sub box in the FJ and get a Dcon thrown in there somehow.  I'll have more listening impressions as the week goes on. I also planned on throwing this in the car if time allows. Here are a few pics:

X200.4 bridged at 8 ohms and 2 ohms should be the same power (400w), thanks to Xe.Load. At 8 ohms it will draw less current as well. So it sounds like you're already running it under optimal conditions. You might try flipping the phase to see if it makes a noticeable difference up front.

As for temporarily running it in the sealed box... just mount it inverted ;). If you do that, you should also try the Exile in the ABC box. Then you can compare both sealed and ported.

I guess I could invert in huh!!?? I have never done that before, I wonder how well that would work all the way up on the fender. And for some reason I thought the Xe.Load only worked for 2 and 4 ohm. :?

If the box is secured in place, it should be no problem.

Xe.load works 1-4 ohm stereo, but when you bridge it, it's 2-8 ohms. That's because 2 ohms bridged = 1 ohm stereo, and 8 ohms bridged = 4 ohm stereo.

Well hell, that makes sense! That also makes life a hell of a lot easier also. Maybe I'll get brave and try it inverted as well. That is if the holes and the cut out are the same as the Exile.

Looks at home in that box for sure. Also appears the driver is not torn up after going through a number of people now. I hope no one minds, but we started to nip a few nice quotes for the review page (each quote is linked and cited) ;).

Actually come to think of it, I might be interested in the box plans as I did not test our prototypes in an ABC, not to mention we have had a few people ask about the other models in an ABC box.

not sure if they are the same either. but it DID have the same cutout and hole positions as my exile shift subs, so i would think it would line up with the exile xtec

Good to know! I'll take a look at it in a few days and see it maybe I an do this.

And denim, I'm going to have to see if I still have that plan around somewhere. It was designed by Pete (Hexibase) for my 4Runner, but it seems to be working great in the FJ. If you have the room for one I would try it out for sure! It's a great way to get low, loud bass without a ton of power. I'll dig around and see if I can find it for you.

If not, no worries, plus I don't have an install here at the moment to test a very large box in. Just an alignment I am not very skilled with and feel I should be. Thanks again for taking the time to test it out.

From my understanding, the ABC idea came from fighting roll offs in the vehicle and increasing efficiency, but I could be wrong. I know a few people have used them that have had great results.

For example one guy had a serious peak right around 44hz or so, but had a dead zone above 55hz, as he did not have mids that could drop down far enough, in addition to a drop off around 29hz. So I believe one chamber was tuned to 25hz and the other to 48hz. But I could be off a little has I have not seen the guy in a few years and going on memory alone (which seems to fail me all the time) ;)

This is actually a good approach for a driver like the Dcon or and RSD that are not big 1000 watt power handling drivers and people want to get the most out of the power they have. Which would make it a great addition to my test box collection.
