The New ti21600.5

Post by RockCrawl »

Hello,

I just had a sysem installed at a local dealer here in Tucson, AZ. I went with the Ti1600.5, however, it seems thats its not ready to be shipped - at the QC guys for testing I guess.

Right now I I am runing the 320.4 as a temporary replacement.

1. Any ideas when the 1600.5 will be ready?

2. The website states its stable @ 2ohm/800 watts, but I saw a therad here that had it stable at 1ohm?

Thanks

Rockcrawl,

We are in the final stages of testing 1600.5 now. Expect it shipping next month.

A very strong amplifier in a small package. They are doing about 150w x 4 at 4 ohms on front/rear and 900w plus on the channel at 2 ohms.

Sub channel is not stable to 1 ohm.

Great to know as I am waiting on this amp as well.

Morgan, will it be possible to bridge the rear channels of this amp? Looking at the option of running an additional single sub off the rear channels of this amp bridged @ 2 or 4 ohms while running mids/highs off the front two channels stereo at 2 or 4 ohms.

No problem. Your system power would be:

Front 4 ohms/2 ohms Stereo: 150w x 2 or 250w x 2
Rear 4 ohms bridged: 500w x 1
Sub 2 ohms: 900w x 1

Lots of power in a small package.

That is fantastic news! Thank you. That helps me greatly with my speaker selection. Now I REALLY can't wait for this amp to come in.

Hey guys, looking for a bit of help. I want to do a couple comparisons with some of my amps.
I am not to familiar with the technical ways of comparing amps. I will be using three way comps and 2 ti10d2 subs for the speakers.
I have 80 amp power supply to a optima yellow top battery. Power holds pretty steady at 13.8v.
I want to compare a ti 500.4 and a ti800.2 vs the new ti21600.5. Other than obviously listening, which is of course going to be personal preference, what other ways can I compare these amps?
I would really like to learn a lot more about how these amps actually work.
Thanks for any info.
I will browse through some older threads as well, see what I find.

How about the Ti1600.5 vs the new Ti21600.5? With the older model being class A/B on the fullrange channels vs D on the newer model...is there a difference in the "sound" of these models outside of the additional power of the Ti2? Any drop-off by going to the class D fullrange section?

My installer says there is, but I haven't personally demo'd them side by side. That being said, Drock is a lover of the Elite amps, and he has a Ti21600.5, and says it sounds pretty damn good. Personally, if I was ever considering the old large Ti amps, I would just spend an extra $100 or so and get an Elite.5. If you are going to dedicate that kind of space to your amp/s, might as well get the best, and the Elite.5 is the best 5 channel amp ever made by anyone.

If it were an extra $100 it would be a no-brainer for me...but realistic pricing doesn't align with that. You just can't get an Elite for that unfortunately.

Yeah, if you can find the Ti's in the right places deals can be had I suppose. You don't find deals on Elites, even used. The Elites seem to hold their value VERY well. Retail, before the Ti's were phased out for Ti2's, the difference in price with the Elites was negligible. In reality, only like $250 difference. If you take your dealer hot coffee on a few cold mornings, and tell him you like his shirt, you can get that down a bit. lol

Look at it another way then. What vehicle is this going in, and will a HUGE amp work well for you? What are you wanting to do?

Put it this way...The current setup was using (2) of the new Zapco Z-150.6 amps. They are also pretty large (over 23" long), all class AB beasts. So space isn't my limiting factor. Truthfully, it would be budget(and sound). Which would mean either used Elite's or used/new Ti/Ti2. My biggest concern is sound and low noise floor as this will be an SQ competition system. I'm testing a host of amps including the older Xtant chrome X series, Soundstream reference, JL HD, Arc XDi, old Diamond D7 series, PG Ti, etc. to see what I prefer to use in the install. The class A/B amps in that bunch run quite large, while the JL and Arc will be my first experience with new model class D fullrange designs. I have a big 75 amp 13.8vdc power supply coming so I can bench test them and demo them easily in the house. :)

In terms of bang for the buck, some of the older amps will probably do better for you, the Xtant amps are good, as well as some of the older PG amps like the ZPA's and old silver Ti's. I was never a fan of the old Soundstream Reference amps. But, if you are doing a competition SQ system, and you value winning, I would seriously pony up and get an Elite.5. If budget wasn't an issue I'd get an Elite.4 and Elite.2 myself. The Elites are some of the best sounding amps ever made by anyone.

But if space were an issue. The new ti21600.5 is really an amazing option.
But you couldn't make me trade out my elites for anything.

Should also have mentioned I run a 3-way active plus sub, so I'd need 7-8 channels of amplification.

You've used both the Ti and Ti2 amps...right? How would you compare their sound in the full range sections (one being A/B and the other being class D) ?

Thanks!!

What's the msrp on those? (I know dealer price will be lower in most cases).

Iirc the Elite.5 Is like $1399 and the Elite.2 Is like $999. The two channel is the cheapest in the line. But, as you said, they can be had cheaper than that.

Drock (and others who've used both)- Check out above. Any feedback on that?
