Japan made a lot of high end gear back in the late 80's to early 90's. Alpine was mostly Japan I believe. Just off the top of my head.

I'd love to get my hands on a Ti3. It might actually motivate me to build that ported enclosure I've been wanting to do for the past 15 years...

along with old sony mobile es, old kenwood and nakamichi.

some seriously good gear come from there. i'm not sure that has anything to do with modern voice coils, but i suppose its better than "high temp 2.5" VC's from a slave camp in china

The Japanese coils are not only wound with tighter tolerances but the epoxys are far superior than found elsewhere. This greatly increases power handling and predictable performance.

I'm interested in opinions on the new Elites if anyone has heard them. I'm starting to shop for subs again I think.

Not to mention that Japan pretty much makes everything better including most cars... and I'm not just saying that because I'm asian.

I'm running the new Elite (12D4) off a TI1500.1 and it's a monster ...clear, loud and built like a tank. One of the best subs I've heard to date and compares to the 12W7 with better SQ ...

All the new subs are good. We've been a dealer for two years now. I personally run the new ti3 12's in a custom ported box. I'm powering them with sx1200.1. They handle the power fine. I are built very well and sound great. I feel like the power rating is a little conservative. The ti3 is a huge improvement over the ti2 models. The product line is very solid.
