50% off Quaife Limited Slip Differentials
A limited slip differential is perhaps one of the best modifications you can do to a car. Get the power down to all of your drive wheels, instead of burning out on a single tire with a standard open differential.
It turns out Quaife has some pretty smoking deals on their LSD's right now. I heard about this through the 9-5 forum (all Saab LSD's have sold out already), but I know you guys have some other cars, so perhaps one of you would be interested in this deal as well.
Brian, they have differentials for E36 328i's as well, though I know you already have an LSD. There are also diffs for cars from Mustangs to Ladas, so if one fits your car, I highly encourage you to replace yours! These differentials are race designed and BULLETPROOF. I would have installed one in my car, unfortunately they are for manual gearboxes only

There are also close ratio gearsets for motorbikes in there (Honda Fireblade, Yamaha R1 and 600cc)

those look pretty nice, but the pricetag matches.
agreed, best thing i ever did to my car. my take offs are much quicker, acceleration while turning has improved. but the single best improvement is the wet/icy/snowy traction. i don't fear for my life every time it rains now.

LSD do have better traction but when they are when lose traction the are far worse in term of control. RWD vehicle lose traction they rear end kicks out , FWD slide around in the front , AWD are even more unpredcitable with both ends LSD. I know af few AWD drag racers who remove their LSD in the front, becuase it was scaring them when they launched.Bfowler wrote:those look pretty nice, but the pricetag matches.

i did notice that! when it snowed i was at a stop in traffic , and when tried to get going again, my rear end just slowly started to move to the left.....lol
im sure when the rear end breaks loose i have overall less control with the LSD...however since putting the LSD on, it has become much harder to break the rear end out to begin with

Yep... 4motion/Quattro uses worm gears like the Quaife LSDs do. That, plus an electronically controlled center differential makes it a beast of a system. I've heard you can also get simple software to control the power distribution in a 4motion system as well, though I can't verify that personally.Mastiff wrote:4motion FTW!
the only things i know of are the upgraded Haldex control modules e.g. Blue proformane & agent orange from HPA.stipud wrote:Yep... 4motion/Quattro uses worm gears like the Quaife LSDs do. i have always wondered if one could simply re-program a factory unit.

Well, although I would not do it, it's really not all that bad. Because the car is soo damn light it really does get up and go. Plus, these things are dirt cheap. So are the engines so if you blow one it's not that big of a deal to grab another for cheap and throw it in.stipud wrote:Wowwww what a waste of money
My Saturn does the job for now, but in the future I will be buying a Scion tC. Although I would love to stop fooling around and just get that Toyota Supra I have always wanted!!

actually a couple of years ago they had a compact tuner shoot out. rules stipulated that you could not modify the engine in any way, only bolt ons.stipud wrote:Wowwww what a waste of money

tom, you need to take your car to a local drag stril for ther ameture drags....i have to know how fast your car really is

3500lb FWD with a turbo is a dog off the line, and would suck balls in a drag... the auto doesn't help much either. I would expect mid 14's at most. Drag racing is pretty pointless IMO, because it doesn't relate to real world situations (except for faggot 16 year olds in Civic DX hatches trying to take on everything they come across).
I can castrate damn near anything from a rolling start however. I even gave a G35 coupe and new Acura TL some serious blows to the ego, while on the way back from the airport this morning
I am looking forward to summer tires though. Maybe then I can finally stop burning out whenever I floor it going under 100mph. Also, I try to avoid driving fast right now, because my staged software is written for an unrestrictive catback, where I am still running pig rich with my stock setup. Swapping to the proper catback should net me at least 15-20 additional HP, plus keep my EGT's much lower.
