Bass Cube Remotes
I finished the remaining remotes yesterday. I have to test them before they go out. I will PM the remaining folks soon.
All of you that I have inquired about the possibility of getting one, the list toward the beginning of this thread is all that I had parts for. I will start a new thread when/if I make more of them.
BTW- Christian, the pot you found very well may work. Can you get either a data sheet from the company, or even a bit more information. If you want me to try to fix the remote you have with one of the pots you found, you can send both to me and I will give it a shot. If the pots you found will work, then perhaps I can have you middle man the parts to me...
Later,
Jason

yeah, i just pm u a pic, it looks exactly like the pot u emailed me, b/c i saved the pic, it just only has 5 pieces of metal to solder, and as i look at my original, it looks like there are 10(one looks like a solder to hold it in place ,towards the back or bottom), but yeah a place here in winter park, florida called skycraft parts surplus, has these for 50 cents, they do have a website, but dont thinkits on there, www.skycraftsurplus.com
as she walked out the door she expressed, 'enjoy your amp addiction'
Hey guys, I have been trying to find my spread sheet with who still needs remotes, and I have given up. Somehow, it is gone...
So, if you are on the list toward the start of the thread, and still need a remote, then PM me so we can set it up. They are all completely tested and working.
I know for sure that I still owe pynard 2 and Wakeup 1, I believe that leaves two others so drop me a PM.
Thanks,
Jason

I think you meant to say "If you hold them end to end..., they should NOT be in the same order". Please confirm because I'm trying to get a cable that works and am having no luck. Tone, I am pretty sure I described it correctly, but when I get out of work, I will take a look at the cable I found that works. It has been a long time since I last looked at it, but if memory serves, with the connectors side by side and oriented the same way the order reverses in the second connector. With the ends facing each other they would be in the same order...Tone wrote:I think you meant to say "If you hold them end to end..., they should NOT be in the same order". So then the photo Marko provided on page 4 of this thread is for a line that will NOT work for a BassCube remote...?

Correct. I checked last night after work, and I had described it correctly. The cord in the picture is not straight through, it would work fine for a phone, but not for the BC.

I have a few people who backed out of the original list. I PMed (to the best of my knowledge) everyone who wanted in after the fact. Only a few of those folks replied and they said they didn't need them either. I have put the remaining two remotes on eBay. Link here: Clicky.
Yes, I am asking more for them on eBay. It appears that eBay has lost it's mind about fees and requiring paypal payment. Even with the higher price, after the eBay and paypal fees, I am not going to be making much, if any money.
If you come to this thread, and ask for one of the two before the auction ends, I will still hook you up at the price stated in the thread, as long as you aren't a brand new member who just looked us up to get a deal.
I don't want to get a bunch of feathers ruffled, so if this upsets you, then PM me and we will talk about it. I am not trying to screw anyone, but I also don't want someone to sign up here just to get a deal from me and then not become a contributing member.
And last, if you had asked for a remote, and I never PMed you, I appologize. I get a lot of email/pm traffic about these silly things and I may have overlooked someone. If so, it was not intentional.

Jason

No, no, no! I am not upset with anyone. I made it clear to the guys that changed their mind, it didn't matter at all to me. The primary reason they backed out, was because it took me so long in the first place. Systems change, goals change, or people find other gear. Not a big deal.Wakeup wrote:Sorry you had guys back out on ya...thats lame...
I made it clear to everyone when I had their remotes ready that if they changed their mind, it was not an issue. That is why I didn't want to take any money up front, I knew it would be a long process. One of the members who is not on here a lot had sold his cube because he didn't think the remotes were going to come through... The other already had a remote and wanted a spare, but is planning to remove the cube from the system.
I am actually glad I have a chance to put a few on eBay. It will give me an opportunity to see if they are worth making another run of. I have to do something to bring in some extra cash to support my broken amp addiction (I am at 20 as of last count, most of them up and running and safe again).
I just didn't want anyone getting pissed that I was trying to make a little money, as I offered the initial ones at cost to help out the phorum. I did get a few PM's throughout the last few months of people saying they found the thread via google and wanted to buy a remote, most signed up to send me a PM and never contributed to the group. That is not what I was doing this for, you know?
I hope that makes sense. I hope that the two on eBay are priced low enough to still be a good deal to the folks who will never be an active part of this community.
Thanks,
Jason

I think we're all more than happy to see you try to get cost back out of the items that you built from our demand.
These are the things that make this community unique, we're not going to jump on your ass over putting some of your hard work on the bay.

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present to you the next generation of bass cube remote:
Somehow, I managed to stumble on an exact replacement pot for the BC remotes. The pot is electrically identical to the original, and is pin for pin compatible. The shaft and threaded bushing are a tiny bit different, but close enough for our purposes. I have redesigned the board yet again, and this one will happily fit in the original mounting bracket. I also sourced the LED connector, so the new generation will not have the LED soldered to the board. I will hopefully be milling the boards on Monday. The new boards will be a bit more expensive, as the new pots are about 5x the cost of the last ones, but well worth it IMO. I also bought a bunch of modular plugs and 1000' of phone cable so that I can offer people the correct cable as well. I will update this thread as soon as the remotes are ready to go. I purchased enough components to build about 18 remotes. I plan to put them on ebay as well.
Thanks for all of your support on this project. I should also be able to fix people broken remotes as well if there is a need.

Jason

Well, I got 25 boards milled today, one of them drilled, none of them cut from the full sheet, and of course, I get called into work to cover midnights for a sick dude...
I am going to try to get back at it next weekend, but w/ all of the family and holiday BS, it could be after Christmas.

^^^ That cracks me up, there seems to be several people on here with a high level education in this sort of thing, but they don't even want to tinker with their own stuff...
Me, I only have a high school degree. Went to college for 2 semesters for EE degree, but found the general ed shit to be mind numbing. I went to work for a major chemical plant, and have been making silicone raw materials for the last 11 years. I am fairly happy there, I actually like shift work, and it give me time to learn things on my own-- whatever interests me.
Anyhow, I just got home from the emergency midnight shift. There is a fucking blizzard here. I am going to bed, gonna have to get up early to fire up the mean machine (my big ass snow blower I built that ate 2 of my fingers, thus the new paint job and name )
Later taters,
Jason

LMAO!
The old girl is about 20 years old. It was a production Craftsman model. My dad gave it to me a few years before he died, after it threw the piston rod. I put a new rod in it, and it leaked oil like a sieve. I eventually found that the rod had punched a Quarter sized hole in the crank case, up behind the starter where you'd never think to look. I finally got it patched up and found all of the track drive stuff was seized up. I worked on the damn thing one whole winter, finally had it running and promptly stuck my hand in it to clear a slushy ice ball jam in the chute. This was about the 6th time I had done this that day, and my luck finally ran out...
The impeller clipped my middle and ring finger in the chute. I don't know if any of you have ever looked in one of these, but there is not a whole lot of clearance between the housing and the impeller for a pair of fingers. Turns out it is pretty hard to stop them too-- Sounded like I stuck a 2x4 in a fan-- Yeah, think Stauby in "The Ringer"!
Anyhow, I jerked my hand out, and thought, well hell, that doesn't hurt to bad. Maybe I didn't jack them up. I started snow blowing again, and thought, well, maybe I should pull the leather gloves off and make sure. So, most of the skin from my finger tips stayed behind in the gloves... I have a bad time with seeing myself injured, not so squeamish about anyone else, but all of the sudden I thought I had better sit a spell. Wife ran me to the ER. I lost both fingernails, both fingers were fractured lengthwise, and most of the skin on the ends was gone.
The doc at the ER said that the heavy leather gloves were probably all that saved the fingers. Funny thing, the nurse new immediately what I had done-- the old farmer geezer in the room next to me had done the exact same thing. Evidently it is a very common occurrence in ER's here during bad snows...
When I got back to it, I made the new chute (the old one was plastic, and was totaled from my gravel drive, and from jerking my hand out at a high velocity) and I gave her a paint job. The safety green was simply to remind me to never be that stupid again! You can also see the nice little snow poker I made that clips on the front of the blower, gives me a nice safe thing to stick in the fast spinny parts.
I threw the damn rod again the next winter, so I ordered a new, bigger, badder motor for her. She has a 10Hp snow king on her back now. The old girl will just about climb a wall with those tracks. I have to do a bit more work though, the run today showed her age again. The auger drive belt has started slipping. Made for a bitch of a job blowing the drives today. Should be simple to tighten it back up, I will try to do it with out it running to save my appendages
Hope you all enjoyed this segue, now back to our regularly scheduled program...

Jason

Later,
Jason
