bfowler - if I just leave it sealed as is in the 0.6 cF box there will be plenty of low's in the 20-40 range? The T/S parameters in WinISD show's the opposite - shows a large/steep drop below 60 Hz and that the 20-40 range has much less SPL than the 50-70 range. going by the parameters, the 30ish ra...

thanks, that makes it much easier. I will just lose some low end extension based on the WinISD parameters going with 0.6 sealed but it will probably still sound better overall. 2 inch X 11 inch is what I came up with on WinISD as well for low 30s, but was concerned about the possibility of port nois...

thanks, i think this will get a little complicated since the larger the port diameter, the longer the port length, and the more box volume I lose. this pushes it more toward the pure SPL volume requirement but I wanted it in the middle of SQ vs SPL. also do you know if WinISD box volume is the total...

Port rec for RSD Comp 10 in 0.7cF box

I have a Probox shallow 10" box that I really like for cosmetic and fitting reasons behind the passenger seat of my SL55 convertible. Black on black box and woofer on dark grey interior. http://www.bicostereo.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=5046 It looks better in person than in the pi...

thanks, I was trying to combine the two signals without paying ~$150 for the audiocontrol LC6 which is what I just put in the wife's car which comes stock with a 3-way active setup up front (8/3/1 inch setup). The LC6 is working flawlessly and sounds great, but I thought it might be the same thing c...

Can I plug multiple speaker level inputs into 1 LOC?

I was thinking about getting something like this to use as a combination LOC and line-driver combined on yet another build. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_21980_Kicker+KX2+-03KX2-.html Basically an active cross-over that also has high-level inputs. The SL55 has 2 sets of speaker outputs coming ...

Focal 40KX setup help

I recently bought this sub for a good deal on Ebay and want to set it up in a Mercedes S550 for SQ while still maintaining use of most of the trunk. Can you guys recommend a mounting configuration that would be good and a decent amp? I have a Xenon 400.1 - will this be enough to push this sub? The R...

thanks dedly - all those options were floating around my head hehe. I wanted an active line driver and an EQ (which has a built in line driver) so I went the cheap way and got a highly rated passive LOC going to EQ which can amp and EQ the signal to send to the amp. I figured this should be a fine s...

LOC + line driver vs active LOC

I am considering a Dave Navone 2ch LOC plus a Clarion 7-band EQ with built-in line-driver to add to stock WRX radio. Cost is similar to an AudioControl LC6 active LOC... Wasn't sure if there is much difference between a good passive LOC + active EQ/line-driver combo or using an active LOC like the L...

I haven't purchased the box yet, but found one locally that almost fits your specs and looks awesome in this setup. It's 1.3 or 1.4 sealed depending on which store description I look at - you think this will be better than the 1.0? The pics look kind of cheesy but in person it actually looks very ni...

IB sub rec for S550

Got some great tips and ordered my system for the WRX, now I need to pick out an IB 10-12" for the S550 Mercedes. Huge trunk, stock sub is a shallow IB 8" that is just plain horrible. Local semi high-end shop did not recommend PG which I'm partial to but rather a safer bet that more people...

OK after all this debate and betting I think I found the answer: While an under-powered amp is pushed to the point of clipping, it sends more power/heat to the sub... However, the extent of this is directly related to the power of the amp. So, as Bfowler stated, the RSDC can handle so much more powe...

I don't understand the physics behind cooking a high quality sub with a poor amp that's under-powered, but out of boredom and some stupidity, I HAVE tried to do this with some spare parts. In my current Impreza that I'm selling to get the new WRX my above system is being put in, I did a lot of testi...

thanks for all the help - i went ahead and ordered my entire system and think it should be fine if i don't go haywire with it. I will have 200W RMS from the MB Quart DSC 450 going to the RSD Comp 12 at 4 ohm and will not purposely try to blow it up to prove anything :) It's going into a 1 cu.ft. sea...

Crap! I just clicked order right before I saw your post for $120 for the 122. Guess $14 extra isn't too bad for a good sub.

Awesome feedback, thanks! I was looking for an excuse to get the RSDC, but I had the misconception that more expensive subs with higher RMS ratings also need more power to sound decent. Unfortunately the 12D2 is discontinued almost everywhere so costs a bit more than the 12D4 but I better run it at ...

thanks, i researched the JL W3 as well and it has great reviews. it has a higher RMS rating and lower sensitivity than the RSD 12 and is almost 3x the price though (the RSD is only $59 shipped from sonix). I'm not sure if the higher RMS rating and lower sensitivity means it requires more power to so...

best sub for 200W

I have a MB Quart 4 channel amp that I'll be bridging for 200W RMS for the sub at 4 ohms. Is this sufficient to get decent sound from a RSD 12 or RSDC 12? Also, the amp manual recommends 4 ohms bridged, but if I wired a sub at 2 ohms do you think it would be ok (would I end up getting more than 200W...
