Re: JBL power series amp
I'm sorry for posting all this JBL crap on this site. But this is my favorite car audio site and I'm all excited about my new old school sub. It ROCKS! I'm only feeding her 90 JBL Watts, but that is more than plenty  I had to lower the sub line output on the HU -6dB compared to my other sub. ...

Re: RSdC124 Problems After a Car Accident
Let me venture a guess or two. First thing, your ohm meter might be giving a false reading. Check with another sub. Second, now this is a long shot.. I think I read or was taught somewhere that a heavy blow on a permanent magnet can actually knock the magnetization out  So if the magnetic fie...

Re: Fried my MPS-2500, need schematic please
Sure enough an AA battery pukes out 10+ amps when shorted. I've tried it too. What limits the current is the battery's internal resistance which can be calculated ohms=V/A. 1,5V/10A = 0,15ohms. This resistance rises when the battery goes flat. But the thing is, shorting a battery is going to harm it...

Re: zapco studio 500 0r zpa 0.5
If anything the larger MS amps are more "monsters". The MPS2500, MS2125, and MS2250 all have more powerful capabilities than a ZPA. Besides, they are dual mono which is a real audiophile feature, and the ZPAs are not. What? If we look at the specs, an MS2250 and ZPA 0.5 are about equal. Y...

JBL power series amp & JBL 1200GTI
Hi everyone! Has anyone any experience with JBL amps? My current sub amp is a JBL P180.2 2x90W 4ohm 1X360W bridged I'm wondering whether it will be able to properly drive my upcoming subwoofer in bridged mode. Or whether I should start looking for something better. The sub to be is an old JBL GTI120...

Re: New Here with ?s and a PG M44
The RCA jack on the right side needs replacing too. The ground signal ground connection is missing.
You can definitely run a nice little setup off this amp. Front speakers 2x55W plus subwoofer 220W bridged. Doesn't seem like much, but these are REAL watts and the sound quality is as good as it gets.

Re: The next pictures of my project FAS-CA Capacitor
When I was a little kid I used to like shorting charged caps. Sort of like point welding. I'm pretty sure this thing could produce ball lightning when properly shorted :P I also liked blowing up caps by feeding them wrong polarity current. Later I found out old caps contain dioxins and such.

Re: Hertz ribbon mid/tweeter question
These ribbons are a pain to install because of their large dimensions. If you install them without separate tweets, beaming can be a problem. Ribbons are very directional at high frequencies, so they need to be pointed directly at your ears. If not, use separate tweets. These hertz ribbons are consi...

Things like DC bias and such can change over the time, which affect sound quality.

Re: Battery Talk
It all depends on how powerful a stereo you have. Both my amps, about 500W RMS total, run off a 40 amp main fuse. Don't ask why or else I'll tell you :-) I never get light flickering because the alt can cope with the amount of current my stereo is drawing. I hardly ever play at max volume though. If...

Re: Battery Talk
When your car is running the battery does nothing at all (except gets charged). You only need a good battery if you like playing your stereo (loud) without the engine running. Am I right?

Re: Mounting a 500+ watt sub in a carpeted enclosure
Depends on the carpet dunnit? There's always a risk of leaks when installing a sub with the carpet acting as a seal. I trust proper seal tape more. Leaks are not a good thing with subs of whatever power range. This is how I avoid using carpet as seal.

Fantastic amps! But my humble opinion is that some of these dinosaurs are just too powerful and complicated for their own good. When you are swinging around kilowatts of power, something is going to burn sooner or later. And when it does, its reckoning day! Imagine doing a cap replacement job on one...

Those sub parameters are crazy! You could put six of those subs into a 2 cu ft sealed box :D Or three in ported. That sub is meant to go in a very small, maybe 0,7 cu ft bass reflex box. The only way to get a low enough tuning of 20-25Hz is a passive radiator. That sub (or ten) would be great in HT ...

The manufacturer sure has stuffed those subs into compact boxes. I mean their minimum recommended sealed box volume is 22,7L whereas those factory boxes are about half that! If you put those subs into recommended volume boxes you will be lookin at massive gains in both sensitivity (+4dB) and SQ. The...

Good news guys! I can explain why clipping can kill subs regardless of the amp power rating. Here goes. A sub voice coil has to dissipate all the power fed into it or else the vc temperature begins to rise. The voice coil dissipates heat mainly through convection which is driven by cone excursion. A...

That power wire looks TIIIINY! You should run 8 or 4 gauge to it! Nice work on the repair! Congrats on your new baby! Thanx! I know, the power wire is 6 square mm, which is between 10 and 9 gauge. My puny ex amp had a 20 amp fuse and I figured that wire to be adequate. Works fine with M50 too...

Sweeet M50
First of all, a BIG thanks to mhyde for sending me the RCA jack for my M50. Replacing the broken one was very easy and I also replaced the power supply caps with four 16V 4700uF caps. That was easy too. I had a horrible moment after installing the amp. The sound was SHIT and it cut out immediately w...
