Re: Old school car audio - RIP
I'll weigh in a little here...old school car audio is far from dead! Now, a question I get all the time...do you think old school car audio is the best? Not necessarily. Technology of amplifiers has for the most part moved to Class D. It's hard to dispute the convenience of a tiny amp, easy to hide,...

Re: Phoenix Gold MS-2125 on the Amp Dyno!
I am not going to shoot the messenger, but I question the usefulness of the Amp Dyno itself. I could be mistaken, but I believe the designer of the Amp Dyno is a previous or maybe even current Rockford Fosgate employee. He should remember the "Powercube" tests that Rockford employed for y...

Re: Phoenix Gold MS-2125 on the Amp Dyno!
I was impressed as well. I knew that 1250W dynamic rating was BS, but the fact it did it's power plus more is more than a LOT of amps I've tested. Not to mention, most of the tests were done at 40Hz, not the ultra-forgiving 1kHz tone amp mfg's have used for many years. Many OS amps were rated across...

Phoenix Gold MS-2125 on the Amp Dyno!
So I've had this recapped MS-2125 with factory silk-screened plexi for a couple of years and finally got around to putting it on the SMD/D'Amore Engineering Amp Dyno. This is my amp, so I decided to put it through multiple tests. Here are the ratings: 4 ohms stereo (12V) - 125W x 2 4 ohms stereo (13...

Re: ZX1200ti "Off Road" Limited Edition Amp on the Amp Dyno
Am guessing each side side did about 655 @4 ohms mono. Depending on the input voltage, you could be dead on  It did close to 700w per side at 4 ohms mono with 14.2V 1% THD (starting voltage 15, dropped to 14.2, I was trying to hit 14.4 for comparison sake) Erik , I get what you are saying and...

Re: ZX1200ti "Off Road" Limited Edition Amp on the Amp Dyno
Personally I don't think it is so smart to test such a rare amplifier on the amp dyno. Finding the max power of an amplifier under load, with a test tone is very hard on the amplifier. Especially so for amps designed to run full range speakers, not power SPL vehicles. So far pretty much every PG am...

ZX1200ti "Off Road" Limited Edition Amp on the Amp Dyno
First off, the amp belongs to Itchy, he had both sent to me after having them recapped and I agreed to test them as he was one of the first who generously donated to help me in purchasing the Amp Dyno. I'm sure most members here know about these amps, but for those who don't... Phoenix Gold ZX1200ti...

I match my channel gains and still get slightly different output on each channel when I test amps also...it's not you. Cool test, thanks for sharing.

What about the 1000W "braking" resistors on eBay? They are your best $ per watt http://www.ebay.com/itm/1000W-2-4-8-16-ohm-aluminium-shell-braking-resistor-resistance-Dummy-Load-Audio-/251332826290 I built a few banks using ceramic and wirewound resistors, but these braking resistors are a...

Re: hifonics connectors
Correct, Mantz mentioned these were made specifically for these amps and the tooling has since been destroyed. He recommends soldering wires directly to the CB as the power connectors can sometimes overheatnot to my knowledge, as far as I'm aware Utilink was unique to series 8 amps.

I have a set of the v2 RF AUDIOphile 12" subs (RFA-812's I believe) and they sound fantastic. Wouldn't hesitate using them in retro system at all. They are excellent SQ subs.

Thanks for the info guys
. According to the seller, there is one more of these 2240's out there as he sold another exactly like this many years ago (pulled from the original system).

Purple/Plum/Burgundy MPS-2240?
I just picked this one up. The seller said it was part of a system that was already installed in a car he bought back in the 90's. He thought the amps had been repainted, but it appears the silk screening is factory (and not stickers). Has anyone seen one like this? Any possibilities it was created ...

Re: Soundigital wallet sized class d amp.
I recently did a few videos on the Rockford PBR300x1, including the one linked to above. I was impressed by this little joker, but will have a better idea once I get it in my car to see how it performs on a daily basis. I don't need (4) 15's and 5000w.... 300w and a couple of subs are fine for my ne...

Re: Rockford Fosgate Punch 150HD vs. Phoenix Gold MS-275?
Interesting birth sheet.. No mention whether a mono or stereo load has been used. What also caught my eye is the freq. response curve. A little boost in the lower frequencies there, just like many listening tests have revealed. The efficiency is also very very good for an old class A/B amp. The old...

Here's a birth sheet from one of my Punch 150HD's...My PG MS-275 birth sheet only shows a distortion graph, not actual output numbers.

Re: Rockford Fosgate Punch 150HD vs. Phoenix Gold MS-275?
I like the videos man! I like watching this type of stuff. Like in your picture up top, I would have easily voted for the PG amp because of how awesome it looks, but after your test results of power output, it's amazing what power they can pack in such a small footprint. I got myself a pair of Rock...

Re: Rockford Fosgate Punch 150HD vs. Phoenix Gold MS-275?
loving the Hifonics amps, they are all underrated, the Thor is a beast for it's size! Yes, they are quite impressive! I was very lucky to find the Vulcan and Thor VII's locally in such good shape. I was actually surprised the guy didn't have the boxes, based on the condition of both amps. He was 18...
